Patrick J. Adams has appeared in nearly a dozen TV shows after Suits, yet none felt like the true replacement for his hit drama role until The Madison. While Patrick J. Adams left Suits after season 7 for personal reasons, later returning in a recurring role for the ninth and final season, Mike Ross remains his most iconic role.

Even after Suits ended in 2019, its massive resurgence in popularity on Netflix in 2023 further established Mike Ross as Adams’ best character, even leading to widespread calls for a revival with the original cast. While a proper Suits revival doesn’t seem to be in the cards, that’s certainly not a bad thing for the main actors, especially when the Suits L.A. spinoff was canceled after just one season.

Rather, it’s more exciting to see the cast embark on new stories and roles, lending their talents and skills that made Suits such a massive success elsewhere. While the main cast has largely yet to find new TV shows with comparable longevity and scale to Suits, that no longer seems to be the case for Mike Ross’ actor. Indeed, new updates on Taylor Sheridan’s The Madison indicate Patrick J. Adams has found his true successor to Suits.

The Madison Sounds Like It’ll Finally Be Patrick J. Adams’ First Multiseason TV Show Since Suits

Patrick J. Adams is starring in the main cast of the Taylor Sheridan-created neo-Western series The Madison, a spinoff of Yellowstone focused on a different family in rural Montana. Adams stars in the upcoming show alongside legends like Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell, as well as hit TV show veterans like Lost’s Matthew Fox.

While Adams has appeared in numerous TV shows since Suits, The Madison is now his biggest role in that time. Adams stars as Russell McIntosh, an investment banker and core member of The Madison’s new Dutton family replacement. He may not be at a legal firm, but the intensity of the drama is certain to rival Suits.

Additionally, it’s looking like the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff will become Patrick J. Adams’ first multiseason role since Suits. It was reported in August 2025 that The Madison season 2 was poised for a renewal ahead of its debut, though this has yet to be officially confirmed by Paramount+. Still, considering how popular Taylor Sheridan’s TV shows with Paramount continue to be, an early season 2 greenlight wouldn’t be surprising.

As actors like Billy Bob Thornton, Sam Elliott, Graham Greene, and James Jordan can attest, Taylor Sheridan has a tendency to recycle actors across multiple projects. Therefore, if Patrick J. Adams and Sheridan’s collaboration proves to be a success in The Madison, then the likelihood of the actor appearing in his other TV shows goes up.

Other than the many upcoming shows in the Yellowstone universe, there are plenty of other ongoing Taylor Sheridan TV series that Adams could eventually appear in. While Mayor of Kingstown will be ending with season 5, should it be renewed, Sheridan also has shows such as Tulsa King, Tulsa King’s spinoff NOLA King, Lioness, and Landman still running.

Furthermore, The Madison being set in the Yellowstone universe opens up the opportunity for Adams’ character Russell to potentially make appearances in other upcoming spinoffs. With Y: Marshals and Dutton Ranch both being present-day series, unlike the upcoming Dutton family-oriented prequel 1944, it would be fitting to see Adams and The Madison’s cast crossover into other franchise entries.

Patrick J. Adams’ The Madison Role Keeps An Iconic Aspect Of Patrick J. Adams’ Suits Role

While The Madison will mark a big departure from Suits’ premise and tone, there will still be some subtle shades of Mike Ross to his role as Russell McIntosh. Namely, Patrick J. Adams will still be portraying a “suit” in The Madison. However, rather than a lawyer, Adams’ character is an investment banker, which will still keep him in the corporate world.

It’ll be an adjustment to see Patrick J. Adams’ The Madison character taking on a luxurious white collar role in rural Montana, though his story is still set to integrate Suits’ familiar New York City setting. While details about the plot of The Madison are limited, we know that Russell, his wife, and her parents are New Yorkers who wind up in Montana’s Madison River valley.

Currently, the release date for The Madison remains unconfirmed, but it’s expected to premiere on Paramount+ in 2026. As such, there hopefully won’t be too long of a wait before seeing Suits’ Patrick J. Adams back on the small screen in a highly anticipated main role.
