Hot springs are how you increase your maximum health in Ghost of Yotei. They’ll be one of the most important location types to look out for, as enemies later in the game start to dish out a lot of damage. Hot springs can be found by looking for the trees with bright red leaves that grow over them.
Every time you get to a vantage point while playing, pull out your spyglass and hover over the red trees to add the hot spring’s icon to your map. Some are pretty well hidden though, and the full list below includes a map screenshot of where to find each of the 16 hot springs in Ghost of Yotei.
Yotei Grasslands Hot Spring Locations
4 Hot Springs
After first starting Ghost of Yotei, you can get to four hot springs relatively easily without leaving the Yotei Grasslands. They are, however, spread very far apart, with each on being on a different edge of the region.
Hidden Cliff Hot Spring
Hidden Cliff Hot Spring can be easy to miss; it’s in the Golden Foothills, on your way from Yotei Grasslands to Ishikari Plain, right before you the point where you travel between zones. It’s up in the cliffs west of the river valley.
Wild Clearing Hot Spring
Conversely, Wild Clearing Hot Spring is near where you go from Yotei Grasslands to Tokachi Range. On the map, it’s just south of where the words “Maw of the Serpent” appear, northwest of Yotei’s Shadow Inn.
Yotei’s Shadow Hot Spring
Yotei’s Shadow Hot Spring is likely to be one of the first you stumble across going through Ghost of Yotei‘s main story – it’s directly east of the Mountain Trail where you go to find Hanbei and acquire the dual katana. It’s also directly west of The Old Stables – where you choose your horse early in the game – right next to a pond.
Horizon View Hot Spring
Horizon View Hot Spring is about as far south as you can get in Yotei Grasslands. Find it west of the Saito Compound, which occupies (or occupied) a lighthouse on the coast, and east of the Coastal Dueling Tree where you begin the quest to duel Takezo the Unrivaled.
Tokachi Range Hot Spring Locations
2 Hot Springs
If you go northeast out of Yotei Grasslands, you’ll travel through Serpent’s Pass and into Tokachi Range, where there are just two hot springs despite the area’s size. Just like the four in Yotei Grasslands, you can get all four Tokachi Range hot springs early in the game, without advancing the main story very far.
Grassy Fields Hot Spring
You’ll find Grassy Fields Hot Spring not too far south from where you can take the ferry across Great Lake into Nayoro Wilds. It’s up on a cliff edge behind a thicket of evergreen trees.
Quiet Valley Hot Spring
Near a sharp bend in Tokachi Range’s northwest border, Quiet Valley Hot Spring is just east of a Saito Encampment that has a watch tower. This one is pretty well hidden among taller trees, but you’ll run into it if you head straight northwest from Huranui’s Rest Inn.
Nayoro Wilds Hot Spring Locations
1 Hot Spring
Nayoro Wilds is by far the smallest region on Yotei‘s Ezo map, so it contains only one hot spring. Most hot springs offer some respite, but there’s very little combat to be found in Nayoro Wilds, so it’s just another part of the relaxing, beautiful mountain valley.
Cave Path Hot Spring
The lone hot spring in Nayoro Wilds is on the region’s western border, almost directly west of Husko Kotan, the Ainu village. It’s tucked away behind a cave that also leads to a nearby Altar of Reflection.
Teshio Ridge Hot Spring Locations
3 Hot Springs
Ezo’s frigid north has three total hot springs. They’re spread all over Teshio Ridge, but make sure you’re not tricked by the only hot spring that’s within another location.
Red Crane Inn Hot Spring
The hot spring at the Red Crane Inn is another one you’re likely to stumble upon during Ghost of Yotei‘s main story. You have to meet Oyuki at the Red Crane Inn multiple times while you’re hunting the Kitsune in Teshio Ridge, and the hot spring is around the left side of the inn itself, when facing the inn’s front entrance. You’ll have to pay a small fee to use this commodified hot spring.
Valley View Hot Spring
Valley View Hot Spring is pretty close to Master Enomoto’s Dojo – southwest of it – but it’s also right behind one of Hana’s Farms. Search along Teshio Ridge’s northwestern edge and you’ll find it easily.
Black Bowl Hot Spring
Black Bowl Hot Spring is in the southwest corner of Teshio Ridge, decently far west and a little bit south of Red Crane Inn. You may have already found the Snow Drift Springs Shrine nearby, which leads to the Snow Drift Springs Hideout.
Ishikari Plain Hot Spring Locations
4 Hot Springs
Ishikari Plain is jam-packed with four hot springs. This can potentially be your first major region after exploring Yotei Grasslands and Tokachi Range, so if you want to prioritize increasing your max HP, Ishikari Plain is an enticing option.
Cloud View Hot Spring
In the northern reaches of Ishikari Plain, you can find the Cloud View Hot Spring directly east of Jigoku Fortress, which sits on a cliff on the coast. If you follow the Rumoi River inland, you’ll find a Pillar of the Fallen, and Cloud View Hot Spring is to the north.
Smoky Mountains Hot Spring
The easiest way to Smoky Mountains Hot Spring is to head northwest from Sensei Takahashi’s Dojo. It’s once again tucked near the edge of the map.
Kappa’s Hot Spring
On the east side of Ishikari Plain, Kappa’s Hot Spring is found north of Oni’s Breath Inn and the nearby Blackened Homestead. It’s in a forest of red-leafed trees, and a series of oni masks hanging from lampposts will guide you there.
Bear Rock Hot Spring
Ishikari Market will be one of your first destinations in Ishikari Plain, and you can find Bear Rock Hot Spring to the market’s east, across the river. Bear Rock is to the hot spring’s south, and it’s also near an Altar of Reflection and the region’s reliquary puzzle.
Oshima Coast Hot Spring Locations
2 Hot Springs
Oshima Coast’s two hot springs will likely be the last ones you discover. You cannot travel to Oshima Coast until you get a strong lead on the Saito Brothers, the Dragon and the Spider, in Ghost of Yotei‘s second chapter.
Distant Castle Hot Spring
Distant Castle Hot Spring is pretty out of the way. It’s tucked into Oshima Coast’s north border, with Miyama Village to its southwest and Tamura Estate to its southeast. When you’re in the bright pink cherry blossoms of Tokuyama Hills, head north and the hot spring is hidden up on a hill.
Cliff View Hot Spring
Head east from Matsumae Castle, across Oyobe River, and search south of where the map says, “Shojin Hills,” for the Cliff View Hot Spring, the last of all 16 hot springs in Ghost of Yotei.
