It has been confirmed that Yellowjackets season 4 will be the last installment of the hit Showtime series. The cancellation announcement comes before the fourth season has even been released.
Yellowjackets is a drama series that follows a high school soccer team after a plane that they were on crashed in 1996. The series jumps back and forth between two timelines. The first is after the initial crash, and the second is set 25 years later, which focuses on four of the surviving girls, Shauna Sadecki (Melanie Lynskey), Taissa Turner (Tawny Cypress), Misty Quigley (Christina Ricci), and Van Palmer (Lauren Ambrose).
The Yellowjackets creators, Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, revealed on its official Instagram page that the show was ending on Friday evening. The post was bittersweet. It stated that while it’s always sad to see the end of a beloved series, it’s best to know when to let go so the franchise can conclude on a high note.
After three incredible seasons, and great consideration, we’re excited to announce that we will be bringing the story of Yellowjackets to its twisted conclusion in this fourth and final season. We’ve always known there would come a point when the story would tell us it wants to end, and it’s our belief that our job — our responsibility — is to listen. Telling this emotional, wild, and deeply human story has been a profoundly meaningful experience and a true honor for us, and we’re so very grateful to the brilliant cast, crew and writers who have bravely gone on the journey with us to bring it to life. Most of all, we want to thank the fans who have stuck with us through every moment, mystery and meal — the Hive is nothing without you! We can’t wait to share the final chapter with you and hope you find it…delicious. All the best, A & B
Prior to the announcement, the creators of the show had expressed that they believed the show would have at least five seasons. However, they later revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that they knew hoping for a long run was “wishful thinking“. They also expressed that regardless of how long or short the series ends up being, they are grateful they had the opportunity to share the story.
Lyle and Nickerson will remain the showrunners for the last season of the critically acclaimed series. At the time of this article’s publication, Yellowjackets season 4 is still in the early phase of production. The show was renewed in May, so it’s likely still in the process of being written. Production has also been confirmed to begin next year and is expected to be released in late 2026.
