The Hunting Wives Back on Netflix Charts After SNL Parody

After being parodied on Saturday Night Live, The Hunting Wives is back on Netflix’s global streaming charts. The divisive mystery thriller series follows Sophie (Brittany Snow), who becomes involved with a wealthy woman named Margo (Malin Akerman) and her social circle known as the Hunting Wives.

From its over-the-top nature to certain depictions being deemed problematic, the raunchy series has proven to be deeply divisive. These reactions did not stop Netflix from renewing The Hunting Wives season 2, though, as the first season spent five weeks on the streamer’s global top 10 charts. Snow and Akerman, along with much of the original cast, are confirmed to be returning for season 2.

Now, almost three months after its debut, The Hunting Wives is back on Netflix’s global charts, where it holds the ninth spot overall and is in the top 10 for 30 countries. The docuseries True Haunting, which just released on October 7, is behind The Hunting Wives in Netflix’s global top 10. Other recent releases, including Monster: The Ed Gein Story and Boots, are at the top of the charts.

The Hunting Wives‘ streaming resurgence is happening alongside the show being parodied during Saturday Night Live season 51, episode 2. Amy Poehler, who hosted the episode, appears as Margo in the parody of the season 2 trailer, while Chloe Fineman parodies Sophie.

They are joined by Aubrey Plaza, who plays a new character that Sophie and Margo take a keen interest in, at least until they learn she has a girlfriend. Check out the sketch below:

Instead of being offended by the SNL sketch, Akerman posted a delighted reaction on Instagram, praising the parody as “the best thing I’ve ever seen!” and jokingly teased this being a glimpse of the season 2 premiere.

While many series perform well soon after premiering, The Hunting Wives continues to maintain high viewership months later and with season 2 still a ways off from being released. The global streaming numbers and being featured on Saturday Night Live proves that it has a strong foothold in popular culture, and that audiences are eager to see what happens next after The Hunting Wives season 1’s ending.

Filming is reportedly set to begin in November, which means that the show could return in 2026. With many popular streaming series having years pass between seasons, it would benefit The Hunting Wives to have a shorter hiatus that can build off the show’s ongoing popularity.
