As the Norse God of Mischief, Loki’s mastery over Asgardian sorcery allows him to manipulate minds, cast illusions, teleport across realms, and reshape reality to a limited extent. Most importantly, Loki’s cunning usually places him steps ahead of gods and mortals alike.
Despite his vast magical prowess, Loki’s downfall often lies in his arrogance and emotional instability. Unlike more cold-headed villains like Thanos or Ultron, Loki’s ego and desire for recognition frequently cloud his judgment. The now-former God of Mischief lacks the sheer destructive might of cosmic beings like the Beyonder, but his unpredictability ensures he’s always able to outsmart the Avengers one way or another.

Doctor Doom Can Do Anything He Sets His Mind To
Doctor Doom may not possess the raw cosmic might of Thanos or the Beyonder, but his mastery of both science and sorcery makes him one of the most dangerous beings in the Marvel Universe. Victor von Doom’s genius intellect places him on the same level as every single one of his enemies. Doom has stolen the Silver Surfer’s power, outwitted Mephisto, and even became God Emperor of the multiverse and ruler of the world.
Doctor Doom’s power is entirely self-made, forged through intellect and an unrelenting need to prove his superiority. Victor von Doom’s ego and need for control lead his schemes to collapse, as he cannot imagine a world he doesn’t dominate. But that same ego is what makes him come back again and again, each time wielding an amount of power that no team or individual hero can match.

Kang the Conqueror
Kang The Conqueror Is So Evil Most Other Kangs Hate Him Too
Armed with technology centuries beyond comprehension, Kang commands armies pulled from different points in history, wielding weapons capable of erasing timelines or rewriting events at will. Nathaniel Richards’ intellect rivals Reed Richards’ and Tony Stark’s, and his ability to manipulate causality makes him nearly impossible to defeat permanently. Every victory against Kang only risks creating another, stronger Kang somewhere else.
Despite his near-omniscient control over time, Kang’s temper and ego are his undoing. Kang is incapable of cooperating with his variants. Immortus, Rama-Tut, the Scarlet Centurion, and Iron Lad are even bigger enemies to him than the Avengers themselves. On the other hand, Kang’s persistence across countless timelines makes him a constant threat. Kang is always somewhere out there.

Mephisto
Mephisto Is A Villain’s Villain
Mephisto is the literal embodiment of evil in the Marvel Universe. The Prince of Darkness rules over a hellish dimension where he collects souls through deception and manipulation. Mephisto’s power overshadows that of most Avengers villains, as he’s capable of warping reality, creating false worlds, and rewriting time itself. Mephisto grants wishes, but only to feed on human suffering and temptation. Even powerful villains like Doctor Doom tread lightly when dealing with him.
Curiously, Mephisto’s biggest weakness is the opposite of other villains: he needs cooperation in order to do the most damage. He can’t simply take what he wants, so he must tempt others into giving it. This limitation makes him beatable through sheer willpower, which characters like Doctor Doom and Silver Surfer have proven. Still, Mephisto’s ability to rewrite fate keeps him one of the Avengers’ most fearsome metaphysical foes.

Thanos
Thanos’ Determination Makes Him A Threat To The Universe
Thanos stands as one of Marvel’s embodiments of destructive ambition. As an Eternal–Deviant hybrid born with immense strength and intellect, Thanos has gone toe-to-toe with nearly every major Marvel hero. The Mad Titan mastered cosmic energy and wielded the Infinity Gauntlet, becoming a being capable of erasing half of all life in the universe with a snap, just to impress Death. Thanos only grows stronger the most determined he gets.
Thanos’ mind is both his sharpest weapon and his deepest flaw. His subconscious desire to fail sabotages him at every turn. Unlike villains like Loki or Kang, Thanos is self-aware enough to know he’s doomed to lose, but too devoted to his twisted plans to ever stop trying. Thanos needs to be opposed at all times, which makes him prone to making mistakes but also extremely difficult to stop.

Ultron
Ultron Can’t Be Killed Through Traditional Means
Ultron’s near-limitless processing power and information, plus his ability to upgrade and change his body endlessly makes him the Avengers’ worst nightmare. Ultron can’t be killed, as he exists as a shared consciousness across his countless drone copies. Hence, defeating Ultron isn’t a matter of strength or power, but strategy.
Ultron’s biggest weakness, ironically, is his obsession with humanity and the emotions he refuses to acknowledge. His hatred blinds him, which allows the Avengers to exploit his ego and repetitive tactics. Even so, Ultron’s resilience and capacity for rebirth make Ultron a villain that’s impossible to fight without a top-tier superhero team.

Annihilus
Annihilus Is An Unstoppable Cosmic Warlord
Annihilus, tyrant of the Negative Zone, nearly conquered the entire universe with his horde of biomechanical soldiers. Besides his Annihilation Wave, Annihilus’ nearly limitless energy manipulation grants him enhanced strength, near-immortality, and the ability to unleash blasts capable of vaporizing planets. He can overwhelm cosmic heroes as powerful as Nova and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Annihilus represents entropy itself, obsessed with preserving his life by destroying all others.
Annihilus’s obsession with survival make him quite similar to Ultron and Thanos. His paranoia makes him dangerous, but also impulsive and predictable, which leaves him vulnerable to strategic retaliation. Without the Cosmic Control Rod, Annihilus loses most of his power and immortality, though he can survive and remain just as dangerous without it.

Korvac
Korvac Is An Omniscient And Nearly Untouchable Cosmic Supervillain
Among Marvel’s most powerful villains, Korvac stands out as one of the Avengers’ most underrated foes. Originally a cyborg from the 31st century, Michael Korvac absorbed the Power Cosmic and gained godlike control over energy and matter. During The Korvac Saga, he effortlessly neutralizes entire Avengers lineups after achieving a level of omniscience that places him way above villains like Thanos and Annihilus.
Due to what remains of his humanity, Korvac is plagued by insecurity and a desperate need for acceptance, particularly from Carina Tivan. Korvac is also amongst the most unstable and self-destructive Avengers enemies, which have contributed to his lack of prominence in Marvel Comics. That said, Korvac is powerful enough to recreate Battleworld after the Beyonder, the Stranger, and Doctor Doom’s multiversal experiments failed.

Onslaught Embodies Professor X & Magneto’s Dangerous Potential
Onslaught is one of the most terrifying beings ever faced by the Avengers and X-Men. Possessing limitless telepathic and telekinetic power, Onslaught could control minds, manipulate matter on a molecular level, and generate psionic blasts strong enough to devastate entire cities. The psychic fusion of Charles Xavier’s suppressed darkness and Magneto’s rage effortlessly defeats both mutant and human heroes.
Onslaught’s raw power is impressive, but he lacks the strategic mindset of other villains. Once Xavier’s consciousness is freed, the villain’s unstable form collapses. Onslaught’s near-godlike abilities and lack of humanity make him a volatile and self-destructive ticking bomb.

The Beyonder Is Omnipotent By Definition
The Beyonder is originally portrayed as a literally omnipotent being from beyond the multiverse. During the first Secret Wars, he effortlessly transports Earth’s mightiest heroes and villains to Battleworld and shapes reality itself for his own amusement. The Beyonder could erase beings like the Molecule Man or restore entire universes with a mere thought.
Such unrestrained power proved too great even for Marvel’s continuity to sustain. Marvel’s 2015 Secret Wars redefines the villain as multiple Beyonders just to balance the stakes. The original Beyonder’s existence remains a testament to the inherent difficulty in depicting Omnipotence in fiction. When a villain is infinitely overpowered, they lose a big part of their appeal.
