A new chapter has officially begun in the Terminator timeline, introducing a new, heroic robot fighting for humanity in The Terminator: Metal. Shocking fans, and opening up all new possibilities for the franchise’s future.
Fans have been anticipating what was to come with Terminator: Metal, a new anthology continuing Dynamite’s thrilling expansion of humanity’s future war against Skynet. Now the first official preview hass been released, confirming the new robotic defender of human forces, adding a brand new layer to The War Against the Machines:
The most recent Terminator series writer Declan Shalvey teams with co-writer Rory McConville and Lorenzo Re for Metal, with this first-look and plot synopsis guaranteeing a new place in history for ‘Tex,’ the Human-Killer turned Human-Protector.
In the post-apocalyptic future that follows Judgment Day, the shattered remnants of humanity must make use of every tool they can in their existential battle against the machines — and that includes the deadliest weapons that Skynet sends to annihilate them.
For one member of the Resistance, this means trusting his life to a reprogrammed Terminator. Trapped behind enemy lines, the soldier and his repurposed engine of destruction must find a way to both survive and complete their mission — an undertaking with such a low probability of success that it could reboot the Terminator back to its default settings!
The Terminator: Metal #1 by Declan Shalvey, Rory McConville, Lorenzo Re (Dynamite)
The least anticipated new weapon wielded by humanity in their fight against Skynet, Tex is the star of the show, gracing the cover of several Terminator: Metal #1 variants. With a distinct bit of bright red warpaint across its face, the T-800, reprogrammed by protagonist Professor Percy Dalton, is an instant new mascot for the franchise.
The Metal series has been pitched as an anthology, suggesting that the creative team plans on revealing multiple new characters, threats, locations, and technology to the existing lore. And while Tex may only be guaranteed to appear in this first issue, there is simply no going back from the confirmation of multiple friendly, heroic, and badass Terminator models.
Tex Joining The Machine War Changes Humanity’s Story Forever
Tales of Even More Friendly T-800s Can Reshape The Franchise
The comics released thus far have already given fans much to enjoy and anticipate, considering how easily these Terminator stories could become movies with a high likelihood of success. But taking a step farther away from the Connor family specifically, Terminator: Metal is doing exactly what fans have been demanding.
The most obvious grounds for successful Terminator storytelling has always been The War Against the Machines. And we do mean the war itself, not a plan to end it, or another rehash of how it began. A global war fought between human resistance and super-intelligent robots has always had endless potential for gripping, thrilling, and meaningful sci-fi spectacle.
Providing those new insights into the war is exactly what Terminator: Metal is setting out to do. And with only the first pages of its first issue, the tale of ‘Tex’ has already made this series a must-read for fans.
The Terminator: Metal #1 is available now from Dynamite.
