Saturday Night Live cast member, Bowen Yang, will be missing from the October 18, 2025, lineup of the long-running show. However, viewers who want to see him portray the recently released George Santos might not have to wait because an insider claimed that the comedian had already pre-filmed a segment for the show this week.
Yang announced that he wouldn’t be in the October 18 show in a relatively vague Instagram story with a picture of what appears to be California, but he reassured fans that the episode would still be full of laughs. The actor wrote, “Missing the show tonight but it will be sooooo fun sab is amazing.”
Although Yang’s message was cryptic, Entertainment Weekly alleged that an insider told them where he’d be. According to this anonymous source, he will be receiving an award on the night of the show in Los Angeles. He is reportedly going to get the Academy Museum’s Vantage Award at a gala.
When the news dropped on October 17 that Congressman Santos was released from prison after only completing three months of his seven-year sentence for committing wire fraud and identity theft, viewers were expecting Saturday Night Live to comment on it. And, naturally, that assumption comes with the expectation that Yang, who has portrayed the politician in the past, would steal the show.
While the source has not confirmed what was filmed, many believed that it would be something regarding Santos. SNL has always been quick to jump on political events, so it wouldn’t be surprising if this ends up being true. However, considering the fact that he was just released on Friday night and Yang himself confirmed that he was in California early on Saturday, it lowers the chances that the pre-recorded skit was about the congressman.
Although it seems unlikely that audiences will see Bowen dressed up as the congressman tonight, it’s still possible. Only time will tell if Entertainment Weekly’s insider was correct.
Tune in to Saturday Night Live at 11:30 PM ET and 8:30 PM PT on October 18, 2025, on NBC.
