Daryl Dixon Season 4 Will Be The Best Yet

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3, episode 7, “Solaz del Mar”.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4 will officially be the final outing for one of the franchise’s most popular spinoff shows, but the next installment has the potential to be the best yet for a variety of reasons. With Daryl Dixon season 3’s ending setting up plenty more action ahead, excitement is already building for the final chapter.

Although Daryl’s journey in Europe has been divisive at times, it’s hard to deny that the change of scenery and unique storylines have given The Walking Dead a slight rejuvenation, as the project has felt completely fresh. It still suffers from some classic tropes, such as Daryl Dixon season 3 continuing to kill off new characters, but this hasn’t doomed the series.

Instead, Daryl and Carol’s attempt to return to America keeps finding ways to ensure audiences stay invested, and with season 4 confirmed to be the end of their epic overseas journey, I’m convinced it will be the spinoff’s strongest entry.

Most Of The Walking Dead Season 3’s Supporting Cast Survived

Having killed off a lot of season 2’s excellent supporting cast, it looked like Daryl Dixon was bound to repeat history as Stephen Merchant’s Julian died in season 3’s premiere. However, since then, the majority of the show’s new characters have survived, setting up a very compelling fourth season.

The likes of Justina, Roberto, and Antonio will almost certainly return, and with viewers building a connection with them in season 3, it makes their upcoming roles all the more important. Likewise, Paz and her partner Elena could also be back, who were great additions to the cast, as was Fede, one of Spain’s key villains.

With the audience already having a reason to care about these characters one way or the other, Daryl Dixon season 4 will be all the more emotional for it, and seeing how these survivors play into the franchise’s future will be fascinating, hence why the next installment is one you won’t want to miss.

Codron Is Back In Daryl Dixon Season 4

Alongside the return of Daryl Dixon‘s Spanish cast, an OG spinoff character will be back: Codron. Having been a major part of seasons 1 and 2, his disappearance left questions about whether he’d ever return. Thankfully, he showed up in season 3’s finale, all but confirming he’ll be heavily involved in helping Daryl and Carol return home.

He already went through a major redemption arc, and the fact that he somehow tracked down the protagonists proves that Codron’s return in Daryl Dixon season 3 will be key to the show’s conclusion. Despite being such a recent addition to the franchise, he has had made a strong impression, which will hopefully make him a Walking Dead regular for years to come.

However, even if he doesn’t make it through season 4, his death or departure is destined to be emotional, and his presence will add a lot to the project, giving the series a huge advantage heading into its final outing.

Los Primitivos Could Become One Of The Walking Dead’s Most Interesting Villain Groups

While El Alcázar and Fede were both defeated in season 3, Daryl Dixon still has one lingering villain group that should be an interesting factor next season. After their menacing debut, The Walking Dead‘s Los Primitivos faded into obscurity, but it seems unlikely that such a great set of antagonists will be sidelined permanently.

Their attack on Solaz caused multiple deaths, and while they lost plenty of people in the process as well, Los Primitivos remain a fearsome threat. Therefore, knowing they could strike again at any point provides a reason to be concerned for the central characters, while the prospect of learning more about their background and motivations gives us something to look forward to.

Daryl Dixon Can Finally Go Home This Time

After three seasons of failed attempts, Daryl can finally return to the US in season 4. Given he is such a big part of the franchise, it would be strange to keep him in Europe, especially since he is likely to be a major part of future projects revolving around the main characters, so long as Norman Reedus remains interested.

Thankfully, this makes it almost inevitable that he’ll make it to America come the end of season 4, along with Carol and his Spanish allies. Assuming this is the outcome, it sets up all sorts of possibilities for Daryl’s Walking Dead story while making everything that happened with Laurent worthwhile.

As fun as it has been to see Daryl interact with new survivors and navigate different cultures, fans have been waiting patiently for him to return to the Commonwealth, and seeing him back on American soil should make for a solid ending that is worth getting excited about.

Staying In Spain Means Jeffrey Grimes Could Still Appear

With Daryl Dixon teasing Jeffrey Grimes’ debut in season 3, it felt like we may finally see Rick’s brother on-screen for the first time in the spinoff. Sadly, this wasn’t the case, but with the story continuing to take place in Spain, there is still plenty of potential for the character to appear, which could be game-changing.

His role in the comics was minimal, as he died in Spain without meeting any of the source material’s main characters, but Daryl Dixon has the chance to change this. Carol’s small reference to him earlier in season 3 feels deliberate, and it’s unlikely The Walking Dead would acknowledge him if it didn’t have something up its sleeve.

As a result, season 4 would be the perfect time for him to feature in some capacity. Whether it’s a small cameo, a flashback sequence regarding his fate, or he’s added as a permanent character, seeing Jeffrey in AMC’s adaptation would be legendary, and Daryl’s spinoff may finally make it happen.

Daryl Dixon Season 4 May End Some Main Show Plot Threads

Despite being so far from home, Daryl Dixon‘s eventual transition back to America offers the chance to wrap up some plot details from the main show. Although The Walking Dead season 11’s ending was relatively satisfying, it didn’t feel like a definitive conclusion, leaving plenty of loose ends.

Firstly, Daryl’s decision to leave the Commonwealth during season 11’s ending left his story feeling incomplete, as departing on his own as part of an exploratory mission isn’t exactly the curtain call people were expecting for an OG character. Fortunately, returning home would rectify this, as he may finally find peace in a community with his loved ones.

Likewise, the opportunity to reunite with Rick is one that simply can’t be overlooked. Daryl spent years searching for Rick after his Walking Dead disappearance before quietly losing hope, but the two friends crossing paths once again would provide an emotional payoff that gives fans closure on this open-ended story, something that Daryl Dixon season 4 can set up.

Daryl Dixon Season 4 Has Major Cameo Potential

Given that a reunion between Daryl and Rick is possible in the spinoff’s fourth season, the idea of Daryl returning to America sets up all kinds of major cameos. Naturally, Andrew Lincoln would be the biggest, but characters like Judith or Connie could provide wholesome reunions, while Michael Rooker could even appear as Merle in a flashback scene.

Andrew Lincoln confirmed talks are happening regarding his return to The Walking Dead as Rick Grimes.

Additionally, Carol’s return to the US would also make a cameo from Khary Payton’s Ezekiel highly possible. If Rick were to return, Michonne could as well, suggesting some of the biggest faces still involved with The Walking Dead could have some sort of role in Daryl Dixon season 4, which would make it the best installment yet.

Daryl Dixon Season 4 Offers The Chance To Set Up A Crossover Show

Perhaps the biggest reason season 4 may be Daryl Dixon‘s greatest yet is its potential to set up the franchise’s future. Putting one of the IP’s biggest characters on a different continent has created some unique stories and interesting backdrops, but it has also hindered any chance of progressing the overarching narrative since the main group is separated.

In contrast, Daryl’s arrival back in the US would allow for all the main survivors to reunite in the Commonwealth or Alexandria. Even if this doesn’t happen in the spinoff, simply teasing Daryl’s return to one of these communities offers The Walking Dead the possibility to do a crossover with all its main cast.

Season 11 was supposed to end the main story, but the spinoffs have made it clear that there is still a little more left in the tank. As a result, many fans are itching to see the central characters together one more time, and Daryl Dixon season 4 offers the best chance at making this a reality.
