Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS for Only Murders in the Building season 5, episode 10

Following immediately off the back of Only Murders in the Building’s latest season finale, Hulu have renewed the show for the fifth year running. The murder mystery comedy-drama series continues to go from strength to strength, as it continues to receive universal acclaim and draw more famous guest stars with each passing season.

Anyone who’s watched Only Murders in the Building season 5’s ending will know that season 6 has already been set up in the closing moments of this finale episode. We have a good idea of where Charles, Mabel, and Oliver are headed to solve their next mystery, and our suspicions have been confirmed in a press release by Hulu.

Arguably the best murder mystery show of the decade has its sights set across the pond for season 6, and we already know at least five of the characters it’ll feature. What’s more, in keeping with the traditions of the series, season 5’s cliffhanger reveal seems to have told us who next season’s murder victim is going to be.

In a press release on October 28, 2025, Hulu directly confirmed that Only Murders in the Building has been renewed for a sixth season. Here is their press statement in full:

“Hulu Original comedy series Only Murders in the Building, which hails from 20th Television, has been renewed for a sixth season consisting of 10 episodes.

“The series will film overseas for the first time, with the beloved crime-solving trio leaving New York City to investigate London’s newest mystery.”

We should expect the release date of this next season to follow the pattern established by the series so far. On that basis, the season 6 premiere should drop sometime in late summer or early fall of 2026.

There is a slight chance that the release window comes around a little later than expected, due to the more expansive shooting schedule filming on location abroad might require. However, no reports at this stage have suggested that a delay in production is anticipated, and it’s more likely that the show will be back next autumn, as usual.

Only Murders In The Building Season 6 Latest News

The latest news we have about the upcoming season in the series comes directly from the mouth of co-creator and showrunner John Hoffman. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hoffman has explained that Cinda Canning’s death at the end of season 5 is a deliberate attempt to return Only Murders in the Building back to where it all started.

Famously, it was one of Cinda’s true-crime podcasts that created the initial connection between Charles, Mabel, and Oliver in the show’s pilot episode, when they met properly for the first time during an apparent fire drill at their New York home, the Arconia building. Tina Fey’s Canning then became a substantial supporting character and prime murder suspect in season 2.

Her sudden death at the gates of the Arconia in the season 5 finale comes as a shock to viewers, but has already set tongues wagging about what’s next for the central podcasting trio of the series. Hoffman’s early indications of what’s to come in season 6 could well send fans of traditional murder mystery fiction into meltdown.

Alluding to the decision to base season 6 of Only Murders in the Building in London, he’s described the country of Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle as “fertile ground” for telling a “cozy” murder mystery that harks back to the traditions of Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, and Miss Marple.

The latest soundbites from John Hoffman have given us a notion of what to expect when the Arconia’s amateur mystery-solvers land in London, then. What we don’t know just yet is who’ll be with them on their British adventure.

Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short will all be reprising their lead roles, but no one else has been confirmed in the season 6 cast at this early stage. Two additional characters are nailed-on to appear in the season, however.

Cinda Canning looks set to be the main murder victim, meaning a starring role for Tina Fey. What’s more, one of the final shots in season 5’s finale very deliberately places Michael Cyril Creighton’s Howard Morris alongside the three leads, creating the impression that he’s now a main character on a near-equal footing with the others.

This impression is consistent with Howard’s integration into the trio’s detective work in season 5, to the extent that he’s credited with solving one important aspect of the mystery in episode 9. Perhaps we see him join Charles, Mabel, and Oliver on their hunt for clues in London during the sixth season of the show.

Beyond the main trio, Howard, and Cinda Canning, we can’t say with any certainty which characters will be returning in the next season. One thing’s for sure, though. There’s likely to be a raft of new guest stars and cameo appearances, mostly of a distinctly British variety, if the sixth season’s setting is anything to go by.

Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building’s cameos took the show’s liberal sprinkling of Hollywood stardust to a whole new level. Betting on the half-dozen or so British acting greats we’ll likely see crossing paths with the Arconia crime podcasters has probably already started. Whether Paul Rudd continues his succession of guest appearances for a fourth straight season is another matter.

Barring the location change to London for Only Murders season 6, the story details we have for next year’s episode are still fairly hazy. Most of the information we can glean about the possible culprit for Cinda Canning’s murder comes from the snippet we hear from her British-based true-crime podcast, “The Girl with the Curls”.

Cinda starts with a typically knowing prologue. Before we know it, we’re immersed in the world of her podcast’s titular protagonist, as she introduces her story:

“While on holiday in the UK I found myself confronted with two new obsessions… a jasmine flowering tea that’s become daily ritual, and a new mystery. A story about a young woman with curls as red as blood, steeped amid the London fog.

“The prime suspect in the murder of a royal descendant. The public has turned against her, and fueled by the British tabloids, there have been threats against her life. But I believe this girl with the curls is innocent, and I feel a strong need to protect her, to send her to America, which may be the only place she can be safe.”

Just as images of treasonous murder plots in Merry Old England are conjured up by Cinda’s voice, we’re confronted with the image of a woman with exactly the red curls she describes staggering through the streets of New York, her hands bloodied. It’s only when she collapses in front of the Arconia that we realize who she is.

This particular “Girl with the Curls” is Cinda Canning herself, apparently gasping her last breath, with blood pouring from her mouth. Given Cinda’s history in Only Murders in the Building of sensationally manufacturing true-crime stories to sell podcasts, it’s possible that this whole thing is a ruse. We’ll have to wait and see.
