Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS ahead for High Potential season 2, episode 7!High Potential showrunner Todd Harthan has teased who that man in season 2, episode 7’s cliffhanger ending is and how it will impact the story ahead. High Potential season 2, episode 7 saw Oz and Daphne examining evidence from Roman’s backpack, which indicated he was still watching over Morgan and their kids after going into hiding years ago.
Examining the evidence, the team finds a photograph of a mysterious man with a beard. However, it’s unclear who this man is, nor what his connection to Roman and his disappearance may be. At the end of the episode, though, Arthur is surprised by this same man getting into the back of his car, signaling future answers involving Roman’s whereabouts.
Speaking with Deadline, Harthan offered some clues about who this bearded man is, and how he might be connected to High Potential‘s broader storyline. The showrunner explained how his arrival will bring the show “to some really interesting places,” signaling he’ll be an important figure to the plot going forward. Just that this is not just a foot soldier. He knows some things, and saw some things and I think it’s gonna be surprising when we catch up to this guy, how we find him, where we find him, and what he has to say. I think it’s gonna send us to some really interesting places, and the one thing I will tease—I can’t say who it is yet—but it’s also gonna take us into the world and orbit of a new character and really amazing piece of casting that we’re working on now that I think is just gonna be really exciting. So, he’s sort of our bridge to the next phase of this whole Roman thing.
Harthan’s statement signifies the next order of business for High Potential‘s characters is uncovering who this mysterious man is and how he’s connected to Roman. It’s unknown if this means Morgan is in more danger. When season 2, episode 7 ended, she was trapped in a hotel with Rhys, a potential thief and murder suspect, though his role is unclear.
Given how mysterious Roman’s disappearance continues to be, this new figure could be just what the show needs to deliver some much-needed answers. The way Harthan describes his arrival indicates he’s someone with crucial knowledge about what happened. What his intentions are and how long it’ll take for him to offer information both remain to be seen.
High Potential broke a viewership record for ABC by becoming the first primetime TV show broadcast at 10 p.m. to become the Number 1 broadcast series since ER in 1999. Not only does this speak to the series’ popularity because of its weekly crime format, but also just how compelling the show’s larger story is.
It’s about to become even more interesting now that the bearded man has arrived, and because he’ll have a major part to play in the overarching Roman storyline. Since High Potential doesn’t return until January 6, 2026, it’ll be quite some time before the series reveals what exactly his role is and how it ties into the disappearance of Morgan’s husband.
