With all the Halloween streaming options available across all platforms this week, Netflix has made it easy by releasing one of its best true crime serial killer adaptations of the year – and it’s not Monster: The Ed Gein Story.
Netflix’s biggest surprise hit of October 2025 – The Asset – is also a crime thriller, but falls more into the spy action subgenre than this serial killer series, which is currently the #3 most-watched Netflix series in the world (via FlixPatrol).
The best thing about this chilling crime thriller is – you can binge the entire series in just one night. If you’re already tired of slasher movie marathons and are looking for something fresh and brand new, then this viral 4-part Netflix series will not disappoint.
The Monster Of Florence Is the Perfect One-Night Halloween Binge On Netflix This Week
The 4-episode Netflix miniseries The Monster of Florence is the perfect new series to binge-watch on Netflix this week before Halloween. Released just last week on October 22, 2025, the true crime adaptation skyrocketed to the top of Netflix’s global streaming charts, even though it recently fell out of the Top 10 U.S. streaming chart.
The logline for The Monster of Florence reads: “An Italian true crime series about the Florence Monster, probably the most well-known and enigmatic serial killer in recent Italian history.” As far as cultural impact goes in Italy, where the series takes place, the Florence Monster is on the same level as America’s most notorious serial killers, like Ted Bundy and the Zodiac Killer.
The Monster Of Florence Is Much Better To Binge This Week Than Monster: Ed Gein
If you’ve been waiting for the week before Halloween to dive into Monster: The Ed Gein Story, you’re much better off pressing play on The Monster of Florence instead. To be fair, Monster season 3 did become one of the most-watched Netflix series of 2025, but it also received an abysmal 21% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics.
Not only is Monster: The Ed Gein Story grotesque and tonally strange, but it’s actually quite a chore to get through its overstretched (and mostly inaccurate) 8 hour-long episodes. The Monster of Florence, on the other hand, consists of just 4 hour-long episodes, which cuts the total runtime in half. It’s essentially like watching a movie and its sequel back-to-back.
The Monster of Florence received mostly positive reviews, even though its audience reception was pretty mixed. Viewers tend to either really like or really dislike the series, as evidenced by the polarized 1 and 10-star user reviews on IMDb. Fortunately, The Monster of Florence is short enough that it’s worth checking out on Netflix this week to determine its quality for yourself.
