Potential spoilers ahead for Dexter: Resurrection.
Krysten Ritter has opened up about the possibility of coming back as Lady Vengeance for Dexter: Resurrection season 2. Showtime confirmed the show would return for a second season after the surprise cancelation of prequel series Dexter: Original Sin. The news of the renewal arrived more than a month after the season 1 finale, with the season setting viewership records for Showtime.
Ritter made her debut as recurring serial killer Lady Vengeance/Mia La Pierre in Dexter: Resurrection season 1. Lady Vengeance quickly stood out thanks to Ritter’s charming yet menacing performance, which fit perfectly with the show’s psychological tone. In the series, the character was killed in prison by a Federal Prison Guard bribed by Charley Brown on Leon Prater’s orders. Her death was staged to look like a suicide to ensure she would not expose Prater’s (Peter Dinklage) secret serial killer club.
Speaking with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley, Ritter expressed her excitement about potentially returning to the hit Showtime series. The actor reflected on how deeply she connected with both the role and the creative team behind the series, crediting her longtime Jessica Jones collaborator Scott Reynolds for bringing her into the Dexter universe. Check out Ritter’s comments below:
Yes, I would definitely be open to it. I definitely loved playing that character. I also loved my experience on the show. I love Michael and Scott Reynolds, who was an EP on Jessica Jones, he also does Dexter. That’s how I got the part. They wrote that for me and I love him so much. The show has a lot of the same crew as Jessica Jones, the whole group department. It felt like I fit really well and that cast, it was just so delicious. But that character, that’s another one very rare character to come across my desk.
Her enthusiasm aligns perfectly with Dexter‘s tradition of bringing back characters in unexpected ways. Throughout the series’ history, death has rarely been the end, with figures of the past often reappearing through memories, hallucinations, or thematic callbacks. Lady Vengeance’s return, whether literal or symbolic, would fit seamlessly into the show.
As one of television’s most recognizable actors, both in genre and prestige projects, Ritter’s known for bringing emotional complexity to darker material. From her breakout role in Breaking Bad to her Emmy-nominated performance as Jessica Jones, Ritter has proven her ability to play deeply flawed characters successfully. Her comments come after the show’s season 2 confirmation. The second season is expected to expand on the Dexter universe, going deeper into its morally ambiguous characters while connecting Resurrection to past incarnations of the series, including New Blood and Original Sin.
The original Dexter series became one of Showtime’s defining hits, running for eight seasons and earning multiple Emmy nominations. Dexter: New Blood later reignited public interest by giving the character a more conclusive, yet controversial, ending.
Dexter: Resurrection built on that momentum by introducing new perspectives and characters, including Ritter’s Lady Vengeance. Original Sin further expanded the Dexter universe, exploring Dexter’s early years in 1991 Miami as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer, under the guidance of his adoptive father, Harry Morgan.
Together, these projects demonstrate Showtime’s continued investment in one of television’s most enduring crime franchises.
