The recent announcement of the Mega Dimensions DLC for Pokémon Legends: Z-A also comes with many interesting details about the game’s extra content, including some series changes that might address some criticisms. The success of this Pokémon spin-off still has plenty of complaints, with many stemming from issues that have long plagued the series. However, the details seen in the DLC hint at fixes for Pokémon Trainers new and old.
Right now, one of the most lackluster elements of Legends: Z-A is how its endgame is almost barren, with very little for players to strive for after completing the main story. While there are some late battles your team of Pokémon can train for, there are very few challenges to overcome. With this game’s emphasis on battles over exploration, this absence of a compelling endgame grind is far different from other Pokémon titles.

Level Caps Have Burst Through A Traditional Pokémon System
In the trailer for the Mega Dimensions DLC, the answer to endgame challenges was answered almost right away, mainly through the introduction of “hyper strong” Pokémon. Legends: Z-A‘s DLC will include a new level cap for Pokémon, allowing both wild and Trainer-controlled creatures to surpass Level 100. This is a first for the franchise, as Level 100 was the absolute strength of any Pokémon Level, Legendary or otherwise, for the whole series.
This already promises new difficulty curves beyond the main story, with some Trainers wielding Pokémon with ridiculous strength. From the trailer alone, you can see a Level 142 Annihilape in some sort of battle scenario, as well as a Level 120 Alpha Corviknight in a flock. Pokémon past the Level cap might be seen in battles or in boss-like situations, similar to the rogue Mega Evolutions in Legends: Z-A you saw in Lumiose City.
The “hyperspace realms” opened by Legendary Pokémon Hoopa seem to be where these ultra-strong Pokémon will reside in the DLC. Several rifts within the city might allow players to transport themselves and their teams to these tears in space, allowing them to encounter new Pokémon. While this will likely include new Pokémon to the game, the higher-level ones will likely be the most noticeable.

Since wild Pokémon of absurdly high Levels will be in the DLC, players will consistently have ways to train their Pokémon up to the same kind of strength.
The Mega Dimensions DLC also seems to include new Mega Evolutions in the game alongside the new Pokémon it adds. Both Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur were seen in the DLC trailer, along with official looks for Mega Raichu X and Y, who were announced before Legend: Z-A‘s launch.
The story of this Paid DLC might include many opportunities to either catch higher Level cap Pokémon or face them in mandatory battles. Either way, this content will only really be available during the endgame, as Pokémon below a certain Level would certainly struggle to fight those beyond the cap. Finding ways to boost your team’s power beyond what it could be makes for a great hook into more gameplay engagement.
With the trailer, players can also expect this endgame grind to come sooner than later. The Mega Dimensions DLC releases earlier than projected when the game launched, setting it up to be accessible in December 2025. As a result, the base game for Legends: Z-A improves instantly, as the incoming DLC encourages players to start grinding their Pokémon team’s Levels before the cap is increased.
Stronger Trainers Could Appear For Greater Challenges In The DLC

The promise of high Levels also implies the existence of better Trainers to fight as well. Already, the trailer features a seemingly experienced Trainer opponent equipped with many different Mega Stones, showcased as an alleged expert on Mega Evolution as a whole. It would not be a surprise to see this Trainer pose a great challenge, with at least one Level 100+ Pokémon that also Mega Evolves in a tough battle.
The existence of this type of Trainer might cause players to also reassess their existing teams as endgame battles get harder and harder. Perhaps you’ll have to visit one of the rifts to get a new Pokémon who counters certain match-ups you couldn’t win before. The addition of stronger fights almost emulates past Pokémon games, whose features like the Battle Frontier mimic long-term endgame goals for you to strive for.
The improvement of this spin-off’s difficulty is exactly what the game needs to keep players invested once the main credits have rolled. Although Mega Dimensions is paid DLC for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, this type of content makes it an excellent correction to one of the game’s most underwhelming pieces.
