The first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is almost here, reportedly dropping ahead of James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire & Ash at the end of 2025. As the beginning of the Multiverse Saga’s grand finale (combined with 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars), Doomsday’s first trailer will hopefully be full of exciting reveals and hype for what’s to come.
This year, Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and Fantastic Four: First Steps have all set the stage for Avengers: Doomsday, releasing in December of next year. With MCU fans being quite eager to see what’s in store for the next big crossover, here are 10 things we’re most hoping to see when Avengers: Doomsday finally releases its first trailer.
An Explanation For Robert Downey Jr. As Doctor Doom
The biggest question surrounding Avengers: Doomsday is how Robert Downey Jr. fits in and his return not as Tony Stark’s Iron Man, but as Victor Von Doom.
After years of playing a founding Avenger, seeing Downey behind the mask of one of Marvel’s most powerful supervillains is quite surprising, especially when it was first announced at 2024’s San Diego Comic-Con. While Doomsday’s first trailer obviously doesn’t need to explain everything, it would be nice to receive some kind of tease explaining the major casting decision.
Confirmed to supposedly be proof of the multiverse and its infinite possibilities, it’s going to be fascinating to learn why specifically Downey is playing Doctor Doom, and how it might connect to the fallen Iron Man.
Rifts Between Avengers Teams
Ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are in an interesting place. After all, while Sam Wilson’s Captain America confirmed his intentions to form a new team of Avengers at the end of Brave New World, Thunderbolts* saw the team of anti-heroes becoming a full-fledged team of New Avengers operating out of the old Avengers Tower (explaining the title’s asterisk).
Likewise, the post-credits scene for Thunderbolts* teased that Wilson isn’t too happy with the New Avengers, considering his own team of heroes (even though we’re not yet familiar with his official roster beyond Joaquin Torres’ Falcon). As such, it would be fun if this teased clash in Thunderbolts* was paid off with some butting of heads in the upcoming trailer.
The Fantastic Four Meeting Heroes From Earth-616
After their exciting debut in 2025’s Fantastic Four: First Steps, the MCU’s First Family finally crossing paths with the mainline Avengers will be a monumental moment. Not only did Thunderbolts* tease their arrival from Earth-828 to Earth-616, but First Steps‘ own post-credits scene teased why, with Doctor Doom appearing before Reed Richards and Sue Storm’s insanely powerful son, Franklin.
The current idea is that The Fantastic Four are attempting to track Doom across the multiverse to save Franklin, presumably landing them face-to-face with the heroes of the main MCU timeline. As such, it would be great to see the First Family interacting with the likes of Captain America, Thor, and more classic MCU heroes in Doomsday’s first trailer.
The X-Men Entering The Chat
Following initial cast announcements, Avengers: Doomsday is expected to also unite the heroes of the main MCU with the X-Men from the Fox universe of films.
Classic X-Men actors confirmed to be a part of Doomsday’s cast thus far include Beast (Kelsey Grammer), Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), Mystique (Rebecca Romijn), Cyclops (James Marsden), and Gambit (Channing Tatum).
The chance to see any one of them in Doomsday’s first trailer interacting with any of the Avengers would be incredibly exciting, teasing future team-ups against Doctor Doom (or perhaps even conflicts among themselves).
A Tease For Doctor Doom’s Plans
Every great Avengers film needs an unforgettable villain, and a Doctor Doom serving as a multiversal threat could arguably rival (or perhaps even surpass) them all.
The first trailer shouldn’t reveal too much, but it would be very exciting to learn even just a little bit about Doom’s plan and his goals, especially if he ends up being the villain in Secret Wars (just as he was in the comics versions).
Given the rumors that Doom seeks to control or reshape the multiverse itself into his own image, the hope is for a tone that feels both cosmic and deeply personal, not unlike Thanos: a villain who truly believes he’s saving existence through conquest and/or acquiring god-like power.
A Previously Unannounced Big Name
It could be Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, or even Nicolas Cage as Ghost Rider. If Avengers: Doomsday’s first trailer wants to guarantee some massive buzz, it would be to reveal an actor/character who’s not yet been revealed as part of the cast.
Naturally, Marvel is going to want to keep most of its multiversal surprises and cameos up its sleeves until the actual movie’s release, but providing some sort of unexpected face would be very exciting all the same.
A Thor/Loki Reunion
The Sons of Odin have been apart for far too long, and Avengers: Doomsday looks to be the movie where “the sun will shine on them again.”
Both Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki are confirmed to be part of the major crossover’s cast. Likewise, the ending of Loki season 2 saw the God of Mischief becoming a god of so much more, becoming a key multiversal figure holding the Sacred Timeline together.
As such, it would be amazing to see Avengers: Doomsday’s first trailer at least teasing the Asgardian brothers’ long-awaited reunion.
The General Stakes For The Beginning Of The Multiverse Saga’s End
Avengers: Doomsday will serve as the first half of the Multiverse Saga’s two-part finale. Keeping that in mind, MCU fans are going to need clarity on the overall stakes sooner rather than later in order for the sake of investment.
This is something we could start to see when Doomsday’s first trailer releases at the end of this year, perhaps teasing what’s at stake and the threats facing the multiverse. After all, we already know that incursions have the power to cause all kinds of multiversal damage and chaos.
While no one should expect Marvel Studios to give everything up all at once, it would be good to see some pretty intense imagery of worlds colliding and timelines collapsing to sell these upcoming crossovers as some of the MCU’s biggest stories of all time.
Right out of the gate, the danger facing the MCU should feel bigger than Thanos and the Infinity Stones.
Comic-Accurate Costumes For The X-Men
Especially after the release of X-Men ’97, a big ask from MCU fans is for comic-accurate X-Men suits over the predominantly black leather uniforms we saw in most of Fox’s previous X-Men movies, with their toned-down designs. Cyclops needs his classic blue and yellow, Magneto needs his red and purple, Nightcrawler needs his red and white, and so on.
If Doomsday gives us even a glimpse of that, the very first trailer will have already done its job in terms of excitement and hype.
A Combination of The Avengers and X-Men Themes
Even in trailers, music matters. If there’s one thing Marvel fans love, it’s the pure epic nostalgia of iconic superhero themes, so why not provide an epic combination of two of the genre’s very best?
Hearing Alan Silvestri’s Avengers score blended with either the ’90s animated X-Men theme or their main theme from Fox’s live-action movies would result in some pretty extreme goosebumps. It would perfectly symbolize the MCU’s ultimate crossover moment, uniting multiple generations of fans for this upcoming multiversal crossover.
If Avengers: Doomsday delivers even half of these moments in its first trailer, Marvel Studios could reignite a lasting excitement for the MCU’s future that’s been rather volatile since the Infinity Saga.
Between Doctor Doom’s debut with RDJ, the X-Men’s arrival, and the return of an actual roster of Avengers (technically two), this upcoming trailer could be the beginning of the MCU’s biggest story yet.
