The Punisher is one of the most brutal characters in Marvel Comics, and that brutality needs to be brought to the big screen in the upcoming MCU film, Avengers: Doomsday. In fact, there’s one scene from the comics in particular that could make (or break) Avengers: Doomsday.
In Secret Wars #1, by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić, the prime reality of Earth-616 collides with the original Ultimate Universe of Earth-1610. Every superhero in both realities is trying to save their worlds, meaning no one is left to pay attention to the street-level super-villains. Well, almost no one.
Super-villains, including the Kingpin, Scorpion, Sandman, and Bullseye, are sitting together in a bar, drinking beer and watching their greatest enemies fail to save the world. They’re getting as much enjoyment out of their final moments as possible. That is, until the Punisher joins them.
The Punisher can’t do much to save the world, but he can spend his final moments doing what he does best: killing bad guys. So, that’s exactly what he does. The Punisher opens fire on every villain in the bar, killing them before the world comes crashing down.
Marvel Comics Outlines the Best Use for The Punisher in the MCU
With the inclusion of the Netflix/Marvel shows in the main continuity of the MCU, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is the official live-action Frank Castle. That means he will be handling street-level villains while the other established heroes of the MCU tackle more global/cosmic threats.
That juxtaposition will be highlighted in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, giving a street-level vigilante like the Punisher little to do during those Avengers-level missions. However, Secret Wars #1 proved that, while he may have little to do, the Punisher can indeed be effectively utilized.
When Doctor Doom launches his inevitable assault on the multiverse, and the Avengers race to stop him, the street-level villains will have no one to keep them in check. Similarly, all those heroes who would have otherwise prevented the Punisher from killing those villains will be too busy to stop him.
Watching the Punisher kill the last remaining street-level villains in the MCU before the entire universe comes apart would be an absolutely epic scene in Avengers: Doomsday, the inclusion of which could make the whole movie (with its exclusion being enough to break it).
Which Villains The Punisher Could Kill in Avengers: Doomsday
There are many street-level villains the Punisher could kill in the MCU. The Kingpin and Bullseye are two obvious ones, as both survived the events of Daredevil: Born Again, but there’s also the likes of Scorpion, Vulture, Zemo, and the Leader primed to be gunned down by the Punisher.
A scene showing the Punisher killing every remaining street-level villain would be a fantastic way to put an end to all the villains’ stories at once while also highlighting how badass the Punisher is in a story that he wouldn’t otherwise play any major part in, given its scale.
That’s why this Punisher scene will genuinely be the moment that makes (or breaks) Avengers: Doomsday.
