Noah Schnapp Confirms Will Byers’ Story Ends in Stranger Things Season 5

Spoilers ahead for Stranger Things Seasons 1-4

Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp is officially saying goodbye to his character Will Byers after a decade of appearing in the Netflix series.

In an interview with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan, Schnapp spoke about his thoughts regarding Stranger Things season 5 and his character’s final moments on the series. He was asked whether he would miss Will or ever want to return to his breakout role in the sci-fi series:

Noah Schnapp: “I mean, I miss him. But I feel like with Will, his story is just done, so there’s not much to miss.”

There has been much speculation regarding Will’s storyline and conclusion in the final season of Stranger Things, especially after Season 5’s trailer was released, as well as the first five minutes of episode 1. Schnapp’s character appears at the forefront of Vecna’s plans, dating all the way back to season 1 when the show’s main antagonist captured Will.

Throughout the series, Will has been connected to the Upside Down and Vecna since his abduction in season 1. Will is seen getting goosebumps whenever something is amiss and the Upside Down/Vecna is near.

In season 2, Will’s best friend Mike refers to Will as a spy, which ends up being true as Will acts as Vecna’s eyes, overseeing what his friends are plotting.

In the trailer, Vecna appears to take Will once again and uses the phrase “You are going to help me… one last time,” and in the first five minutes of season 5 (flashback to season 1), he addresses Will again and says: “At long last, we can begin. You and I, we are going to do such beautiful things together, William. Such beautiful things.”

While it’s unclear what Will’s true connection with the Upside Down is or why Vecna chose him, it’s clear Will’s story will have a true ending due to Schnapp’s statement clarifying Will’s story “is just done.”

Stranger Things has become a cultural phenomenon worldwide, with sources suggesting the series has brought in 2 million new subscribers and over $1 billion in revenue for Netflix since 2020. Despite the long wait for the final season, fans are gearing up for a tearful and action-packed farewell.

Stranger Things Season 5 begins on November 26 with Volume 1, then continues on December 25 with Volume 2, and the final episode will be released on Netflix and in select theaters on December 31.
