2013’s Square Enix-published Tomb Raider is available now for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Originally developed by Crystal Dynamics, a port of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition was handled by Aspyr and shadow dropped on the new platforms.
Announced on the official Tomb Raider site, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition was announced and released simultaneously for its Switch and Switch 2 debut on November 18. The Definitive Edition includes all the DLC previously released for Tomb Raider, plus a slate of bonus content: a digital version of the Tomb Raider: The Beginning comic, the Tomb Raider: The Art of Survival digital art book, and a developer series about the game’s development called Final Hours of Tomb Raider. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is available now via the Nintendo eShop for $19.99, but is discounted for a limited time.

The Beginning Of Lara Croft’s Newest Trilogy
Tomb Raider originally released in 2013 as a reboot of the classic series. An origin story for Lara Croft becoming a treasure hunter, Tomb Raider was followed by Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which remains the most recent game in the Survivor Trilogy. Tomb Raider is generally considered the best of the trilogy, building on similar climbing, puzzle, and combat mechanics that made the Uncharted series a smash hit, but I personally find all three games worth your time.
2013’s Tomb Raider was originally released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation, so a Switch port feels long overdue. Details are scarce, but the Switch 2 version conceivably will run at higher resolutions and frame rates. Included in both is the original 4v4 multiplayer modes.
Loyalty Discounts Available For Tomb Raider Fans On Switch
Up To 30% Off
To celebrate the surprise release, Tomb Raider on Switch and Switch 2 is discounted at 10% off until Monday, November 24. Tomb Raider series fans can get additional discounts. If you have Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered or Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered on Switch or Switch 2, you get an additional 10% off for each. This means the discounts stack up to a total of 30% off until November 24, bringing the price down from $20 to $14.
With this release, it feels like only a matter of time until the rest of the Survivor Trilogy comes to Nintendo’s platforms. The Switch 2 should be especially capable of running both Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider – particularly the former, which was a cross-generation title. The series has been dormant since 2018, with Shadow developer Eidos-Montreal moving on to other projects, and currently supporting development on the Fable reboot and Grounded 2. Aspyr seems to have taken the reins on any ports, though, and Tomb Raider is hopefully just the beginning for Switch owners.
