As a classic shonen battle manga, it’s no surprise that romance has been rare in Jujutsu Kaisen. Even the series’ most obvious couple, Yuta and Maki, were only indirectly implied to have ended up together in the manga’s epilogue.
This is why it is all the more surprising that Jujutsu Kaisen’s sequel, Modulo, just introduced a brand-new romance of its own. However, judging by how most couples and ships have ended up in the series before, this adorable new couple may sadly be doomed as well.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Introduces Its Cutest Couple Yet
Amidst the delicate truce between humans and the Simurians, chapter #11 of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo sees Usami and Mino contemplate setting up a political marriage to strengthen relations. However, just as they dismiss the possibility, the chapter surprises fans with an adorable meet-cute between Dabura and Kyoko Tomoe, Jujutsu High’s resident nutritionist.
From the flowers blooming in the background to Tomoe getting all flustered and Dabura quite literally losing his footing, it seems like the two could be Modulo’s cutest couple yet. However, if Jujutsu Kaisen’s track record with romance is anything to go by, this ship may be destined to sink.
In fact, Modulo’s latest chapter may have already set up the biggest hurdle for the couple to overcome, which would be a potential war between the Simurians and humans.
The end of chapter #11 teases that conflict may just be inevitable, especially now that the humans have supposedly killed a Kalyan, and if so, Tomoe and Dabura may soon end up on opposing sides.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s Romances Have Always Been Doomed
Thinking back, other than Yuta and Maki, no other couple in the series gets quite an overt happy ending. Even Yuta and Maki, for that matter, went through hell during Jujutsu Kaisen, especially during the final battle, before finding happiness.
In Maki’s case, this was losing Mai and slaughtering the Zenin Clan, while in Yuta’s case, he came inches away from death during the final battle against Sukuna.
Another notable canonical couple in the series includes Yuji and Ozawa, who also did not get any closure outside of reuniting again in the epilogue. Other than this ship, there is also Hakari and Kirara, who were criminally sidelined. Nearly every other pairing in Jujutsu Kaisen, be it Gojo and Geto, Miwa and Mechamaru, or Choso and Yuki, ended up in tragedy.
As such, it is hard not to be concerned that Dabura and Tomoe could go down the same path of suffering pain, for happiness to not even be guaranteed at the end. That said, fans can only hope for the best, as the two do make a surprisingly cute pair.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo’s latest developments have also revealed an unexpectedly soft side to Dabura, who is growing to be just as endearing as Cross and Maru, and it would be a different kind of sad to see him and the Simurians turn into the antagonists of the story.
