Gamers looking forward to Grand Theft Auto 6 are growing increasingly concerned over the game’s price, and it’s not hard to see why. Rockstar Games is working on what is shaping up to be the biggest entertainment release of all-time, and the overwhelming consensus is that it will come with a hefty price tag to boot.
Anyone who follows all the big GTA 6 news (which, let’s face it, is most gamers), will probably be aware of the reports that the game could cost as much as $100. To be clear, this is currently very much unconfirmed. However, gamers are fearful the new Grand Theft Auto will once again set a new standard in an industry of ever-increasing prices.
GTA 6 Probably Won’t Cost $100
But that doesn’t mean it’ll come cheap
In a recent earnings report, Take-Two Interactive CEO and chairman Strauss Zelnick touched on the thorny subject of GTA 6‘s price. While confirming to Variety that the official announcement will come “in due time”, he did appear to set some expectations.
He explained:
“Our goal always is to deliver more value than what we charge, so we’ve had variable pricing at the company forever. As you know, the approach of the industry is to launch at a premium price, sometimes with special editions, and over time, typically to reduce the price to enhance the overall size of the market. We do the very same thing. I think, probably more than most, we’re highly focused on making sure that the experience is great, not just because the game itself is great, but also because consumers have paid a fair price for it.”
Naturally, some gamers have chosen to interpret this as bad news. We know GTA 6 is a massive game, and one Rockstar Games will likely support for a long time. After all, it’s been in development for the better part of a decade, and look how long GTA 5 Online has managed to run for.
“Translation: We’re charging more,” wrote one Reddit user in response to Zelnick’s comments.
Another added: “I fully expect it to be $79.99, maybe even $89.99. Everyone knows GTA 6 is gonna be the best selling video game since GTA 5. They’re gonna charge whatever makes them the most money.”
Not All Gamers Are So Concerned
There may be hope after all
Some fans believe that there will certainly be premium versions of GTA 6 that sell for upwards of $100, but argue the current standard of around $70 is likely to be the most we pay for the base version of the game.
As one Reddit user argues: “Because in doing that, you’re grabbing the whales anyway.”
GTA 6 was recently delayed for a second time to November 19 2026. On the plus side, that does mean we are now less than a year away. Again. Hopefully it won’t be long until we get a new trailer, and maybe some concrete details on pricing.
