PBS Masterpiece and Channel 5 have confirmed the fate of beloved British period drama All Creatures Great and Small. This version of All Creatures, which debuted in the UK in 2020 to critical acclaim, is the second adaptation of veterinary surgeon James Herriot’s classic semi-autobiographical novels, chronicling the life of a veterinary practice in Northern England’s Yorkshire Dales during the mid-20th century.
Season 6 has already aired in full in the UK, with the sixth and final episode having premiered on 5 on October 30. This year’s Christmas special is expected to be released for British audiences in December. US viewers will have to wait a little longer, as season 6 is scheduled to air on PBS Masterpiece starting Sunday, January 11, 2026, with new episodes airing weekly.
There’s good news, however. Fans of this heartwarming drama can enjoy the most recent season with ease, as All Creatures Great and Small has officially been renewed. In fact, it’s been renewed for not one, but two full seasons. Both seasons 7 and 8 of All Creatures Great and Small will consist of six episodes in addition to two Christmas specials, as has become tradition for the series.
Although filming and casting details for All Creatures Great and Small‘s next two seasons have yet to be announced, we’d expect all current leads to return, including Nicholas Ralph as James, Rachel Shenton as Helen, Samuel West as Siegfried, Callum Woodhouse as Tristan, and Anna Madeley as Mrs. Hall.
Of the renewal, Greg Barnett, the Commissioning Editor for 5, said:
“All Creatures Great and Small is a jewel in 5’s drama crown and continues to delight viewers year after year. Its warmth, humor, and heart, set against the beauty of Yorkshire, have made it a firm audience favorite. We’re thrilled to extend its future with two more series, with many new stories still to tell and more unforgettable adventures ahead for our Skeldale family.”
This double renewal is welcome news, certainly, but not necessarily surprising. The series boasts a 99% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and All Creatures Great and Small has consistently been one of 5’s top performers in the UK. According to RadioTimes.com, All Creatures drew in “over 14 million individuals across its first five seasons and [drove] more new users to 5’s streaming platform than any other show.”
Similarly, Susanne Simpson, Head of Scripted Content for PBS Masterpiece, commented in the seasons 7 and 8 renewal announcement that the period drama is one of the channel’s “most watched series” and that it’s “found its way into the hearts of American audiences.”
The upcoming sixth season jumps forward to 1945, as the end of the war allows James and his friends to be reunited after spending a scattered few years apart. James and Helen have been living at Helen’s father’s farm, Tristan has been serving in the veterinary corps overseas, and Mrs. Hall left Skeldale House in Siegfried’s not-so-capable hands. The official synopsis reads:
“It’s 1945, and the Skeldale family is stepping into a new chapter—one shaped by change, hope, and the opportunities that come with a more peaceful future.
There are new veterinary cases to tackle, growing families, and a few new faces around town. But at its core, the show continues to celebrate what it always has: community, compassion, and connection. The war may have left its mark, but the people of Darrowby keep showing up for each other—and their creatures.”
New cast members in season 6 include Lucy-Jo Hudson as Susan, Gaia Wise as Charlotte Beauvoir (who has been teased as Tristan’s new love interest), Jonathan Hyde as General Beauvoir, Philip Martin Brown as Mr. Bolton, and Chris Gascoyne as Harry Coker.
