Isekai has been one of the most successful genres in the anime industry for years. With franchises like Re:Zero and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, isekai anime focused on transporting their protagonists to fantastical worlds have reinvented themselves in countless ways. However, a common characteristic in most isekai anime is that almost all of them feature protagonists with immense powers.
There are anime characters who stand out from the moment they set foot in their new world. While they may not always be the strongest in their universe, some isekai characters possess an ability that makes them the greatest threat to their villains or renders them virtually impossible to kill or defeat.
Flio – Chillin’ in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers
Although Flio tends not to stand out, he easily becomes the strongest mage in the world. He was originally a simple merchant in his previous world, but upon being summoned to the magical Kingdom of Klyrode to fight against the demon king, Flio gains immeasurable powers as he is able to learn every magic and replicate it in an amplified form.
As he learns new magic, Flio gains almost omnipotent powers as he levels up. However, what makes Chillin’ in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers different is that, despite having incredible powers, Flio chooses not to fight and prefers to live a peaceful life.

Makoto Misumi’s immense strength stems from the extraordinary increase in his magical powers due to the blessings of Tsukuyomi. What is particularly noteworthy is his magical capacity continues to grow with training and as he gains experience in battle. Ultimately, Makoto reached a level of power that no otherworldly race, let alone the two summoned by the goddess as heroes, could match.
Izayoi Sakamaki – Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren’t They?
Izayoi Sakamaki had extraordinary fighting powers in his original world and also after arriving in Little Garden. In addition to his inhuman strength, he has an amazing defensive power, as he won’t take much damage even if he receives a direct hit from an attack of earth-shattering magnitude. Another of his traits is that he is knowledgeable and has excellent insight and analytical skills to act according to any given situation.
Izayoi’s gift is “Code Unknown,” but not much was revealed about the extent of his abilities other than that it increases his stats to superhuman levels. Izayoi’s natural ability is the power to negate and destroy other gifts, which means he is immune to all supernatural powers except for physical attacks.
Natsuki Subaru – Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World-
Natsuki Subaru, the protagonist of Re:Zero, has a major skill, which is actually a curse imposed by Satella, called “Return by Death.” This ability allows Subaru to rewind a certain amount of time, returning to a save point prior to his death and retaining his memories, which is undoubtedly one of the best abilities in the series.
While this ability doesn’t make Subaru physically stronger, nor is it a single-shot destructive power, it is an extremely useful skill that makes him virtually immortal and capable of avoiding any defeat in battle until he manages to overcome it. This is only possible thanks to Subaru’s mental fortitude, as he uses this ability by continuing to face challenges time and time again.
Cid Kageno (Shadow) – The Eminence In Shadow
Cid Kagenou, the leader of Shadow Garden, has a strength that far surpasses those of all the characters in The Eminence in Shadow. He possesses extraordinary attacks, including his ultimate move, “I Am Atomic,” which is a powerful blast of condensed magic in the shape of a nuke due to his uncompromising belief that he could defeat a nuclear attack.
Shadow’s power lies not only in his combat prowess but also in his control over his magical abilities and fighting style, employing various martial arts learned in his previous life. Shadow is a powerhouse who continues to intervene in conflicts from behind the scenes and demonstrate his overwhelming abilities.
Kumoko – So I’m A Spider, So What?
.Kumoko started out as a spider but became extremely powerful. In the last episode of the anime, she even beats death by using her egg-laying and kin-control skill to transfer her consciousness from her original body to one of the eggs and avoid being hit.
Although this was a desperate attempt, it showed Kumoko’s creativity in using her abilities and her easy-going personality, which allowed Kumoko to become as strong as she is. In the So I’m a Spider, So What? Light novel, it is revealed that Kumuko eventually evolved into a god.
Ainz Ooal Gown – Overlord
Ainz Ooal Gown is the protagonist of Overlord and one of the Forty-One Supreme Beings, as well as the leader of the Great Tomb of Nazarick. He is a level 100 magic caster specializing in undead magic and possesses 10th-tier spells that can cause instant death, such as Meteor Fall and Reality Slash, capable of slashing through space itself.
Thanks to his “Dark Wisdom” ability, he could double the number of spells he could learn to 700. In addition to his magical powers, Ainz can single-handedly change the course of battle with his world items, such as Longinus, capable of erasing an opponent from existence. While not invincible, Ainz’s vast arsenal of spells makes him extremely difficult to defeat permanently.
Reinhard Von Astrea – Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World-
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Reinhard Von Astrea’s very existence defines the concept of “strength” in Re:Zero. Without being the main character, Reinhard is one of the strongest characters in Re:Zero‘s universe and in all of isekai anime. His strength lies in his ability to obtain multiple divine protections, allowing him to nullify anything and ensure his victory.
Some of Reinhard’s abilities include immunity to unknown and surprise attacks, or any first attacks, 100% accuracy on all long-range attacks, and numerous divine protections that reach unreasonable levels. Furthermore, he possesses the Divine Protection of the Sword Saint, which maximizes his power when wielding a sword.
However, while Reinhard can die, what truly makes him invincible is his ability to revive thanks to the Phoenix’s Divine Protection. According to the author of Re:Zero, even if Reinhard were to lose the Phoenix’s protection, he would likely gain another similar protection from Od Lagna, making him virtually immortal.
Yogiri Takato – My Instant Death Ability Is So Overpowered, No One in This Other World Stands a Chance Against Me!
Although there doesn’t seem to be anything particularly powerful about him, Yogiri Takato has the strongest cheatskill in isekai anime, his instant death ability, which allows him to kill any imaginable thing. Instant death can be inflicted on anything and can’t be avoided or neutralized in any way, acting more like an invincible force in the universe than an ability.
Instant death can also be automatically triggered to counterattack and respond to anything redirected at him even before he can react, which means it is designed to work on any virtual opponent and even concepts. No matter how vast the anime world is, Yogiri’s instant skill is designed to render everything meaningless, serving as a parody of overpowered isekai characters.
Rimuru Tempest – That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime
While Rimuru from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime may appear to be only a weak slime at first glance, after reincarnating, he acquired two powerful skills, “Predator” and “Great Sage,” both of which allowed him to experience over time both a physically and mentally exponential growth by learning as many skills as possible and achieving a superior intellect.
Rimuru gradually evolves into a True Demon Lord with abilities such as mind acceleration, regeneration, and space-time domination. In the light novel, Rimuru transforms into a true dragon and then into a god capable of withstanding any kind of damage, stopping time, and even creating or destroying worlds, reaching the top as one of the strongest characters on a cosmic scale.
