Outlander Season 8 Can’t Miss It’s Chance To Revive A Plot Twist Starz Has Weirdly Ignored

Starz’s Outlander has weirdly ignored a book plot twist, but season 8 could be the perfect time to revive it on screen. This upcoming installment will be the last for the romantacy series, so there isn’t much time to wrap up the final details of Jamie and Claire’s stories. However, Outlander season 8 will have all the necessary pieces to squeeze in another intriguing side story.

Some exciting news going into Outlander season 8 is that César Domboy and Lauren Lyle will be returning to play Fergus and Marsali Fraser. These characters haven’t been seen on screen for a while, so their return is wholly welcomed. Precisely what this means for the story is unclear, but I can’t help but hope that their return means Outlander will bring back a key Fergus twist.

Outlander Season 8 Can Reveal The Truth About Fergus’ Father

All The Pieces Are There In Outlander Season 8

In the Outlander books, it’s ultimately revealed that Fergus’ biological father is none other than Comte St. Germain—the villain who attempted to murder Claire back in season 2. To make this all even more interesting, Fergus’ mother is believed to be Amelie Beauchamp, who could (though it’s not confirmed) be an ancestor to Claire herself.

Diana Gabaldon’s books have yet to fully reveal what this twist about Fergus means. However, one of her spinoff novels, The Space Between, confirms that Comte St. Germain is secretly a time traveler. The fact that Fergus’ father shares this gift with Claire and that his mother was a Beauchamp is surely no coincidence. However, Outlander has ignored this twist.

Outlander season 8 is all set up to finally address this big mystery. Amelie Beauchamp’s brother-in-law, Percy, was introduced in season 7 as an old acquaintance of Lord John’s. In the books, he came inquiring on Comte St. Germina’s behalf, so we may hear more about this in season 8. The fact that Fergus is coming back means all the pieces are in alignment to make this happen.

Fergus’ Absence Was A Problem

Claire and King Louis in Outlander

Based on how the Outlander books line up with the TV show, we should have heard about the Fergus twist when Percy Beauchamp appeared in season 7. However, this character’s introduction came and went with no word on Comte St. Germain or Fergus. This is likely because Domboy and Lyle had already left the series. However, now that they are back, this is our big chance.

The Faith Fraser twist and Master Raymond’s return in Outlander season 7 hint that we will hear more about other time-traveling characters in season 8.

The Faith Fraser twist and Master Raymond’s return in Outlander season 7 hint that we will hear more about other time-traveling characters in season 8. The recently introduced Captain Richardson is also secretly a character from the future, so the Starz series may be gearing up to tie everything together in this regard. The truth about Fergus’ parentage would fit right in.
