Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis is set to get a crossover with one of Square Enix’s biggest RPGs this month. The free-to-play game is currently available on mobile devices and PC, tying together various chapters of the FF7 extended universe in a turn-based RPG that spans decades of Final Fantasy history.
Now Ever Crisis is set to expand beyond those borders, introducing characters and cosmetics from NieR: Automata (via xNas on Reddit). The collab arrives in Ever Crisis on November 27, and will allow players to obtain special NieR-themed outfits for their Ever Crisis party members as they face off against NieR: Automata‘s protagonist, 2B, who will also appear as a boss during the event.
Final Fantasy 7 And NieR: Automata Are Colliding
Everything In Ever Crisis’ NieR Event
The main feature of FF7: Ever Crisis‘ NieR collab is a series of new cosmetic items for Yuffie and Tifa. Modeled after YoRHa uniforms, these new outfits and weapons can be earned during the time-limited event beginning on November 27.
In addition, NieR: Automata‘s 2B will appear as a boss during an event quest. Titled “YoRHa No. 2 Type B Intercept: Encounter in the City Ruins,” this special mission will be available beginning at 5:00 PDT on November 27.
The NieR crossover event also comes with the usual bonuses:
- 10 daily free draws
- Event login bonus up to Blue Crystal x3,000
- 1 daily free crossover draw
- Event Panel Missions
By completing the Event Panel Missions, you can obtain a new Enemy Ability, presumably one of the moves 2B uses during her featured boss fight.
Gamers Yearn For A New Nier Game
But Yoko Taro Says They Keep Getting Canceled
This is far from the first crossover for NieR, which has crossed over with everything from Monster hunter to Phantasy Star to Gravity Rush to Rainbow Six Siege. In fact, it’s not even the first FF–NieR collab: 2B has appeared previously in Brave Exvius and Final Fantasy XIV, and music from the series appears in the rhythm game spinoff Theatrythm.
After NieR‘s crossover with Stellar Blade, its official X (formerly Twitter) account gave a refreshingly honest take on its willingness to collaborate with other franchises: “We will gladly say yes to anything for money.”
That’s all well and good, and I’d never begrudge 2B her beloved cameos. But it gets to a point, especially in the absence of any news regarding the future of the NieR franchise, or its visionary creator, Yoko Taro. Fans are clamoring for a sequel — as Reddit user alxanta puts it, “SE will do anything with NieR other than making [a] new NieR game.”
In a recent interview (originally published by 4gamer, spotted by Rock Paper Shotgun), Yoko Taro revealed that it’s not his fault: he’s been working on new projects, but they keep getting canceled before they see the light of day. “I often get told stuff like, ‘Why aren’t you making a new sequel to NieR,’ or ‘Yoko Taro isn’t doing anything,’ but that’s because recently, a lot of projects I was involved in got discontinued midway through development.”
“I got paid for it, so I personally have no issues with that,” Taro added.
So it’s understandable that fans are frustrated with the proliferation of NieR crossovers and the lack of new NieR installments, or other projects by Taro. Even so, the crossover with Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis actually looks pretty cool, and I’m certainly curious to see how these disparate worlds collide.
