Live-action remakes of beloved anime series often divide fans, and Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Solo Leveling is no exception. While some live-action adaptations have achieved worldwide success, such as One Piece, there’s no doubt that Solo Leveling‘s story, filled with gigantic monsters, dungeon bosses, and epic, fast-paced fight sequences, is difficult to translate into flesh and blood.
Nonetheless, fans hesitant to watch Solo Leveling‘s live-action adaptation might find some hope in a new fan-made video showcasing a more “realistic” version of Jinwoo in one of his most important battles. The clip, shared on YouTube by animator Diego Woods, boasts impressive quality and demonstrates just how good a live-action version of Solo Leveling could look in the right hands.
Solo Leveling’s New Fan-Made Clip Shows What the Next Live-Action Adaptation Should Look Like
Solo Leveling‘s battles show little respect for realism, as it’s all about showcasing Jinwoo’s superhuman skills as he levels up. However, this full hyperrealistic animated homage to the fight of Jinwoo vs. the Ant King proved to fans how visual effects could be used to bring the world of Solo Leveling to life with amazing accuracy.
The creator of this Solo Leveling fan-made short is the visual effects artist Diego Wood, a prominent content creator who has created many live-action animations of popular anime such as Naruto, Demon Slayer, and Jujutsu Kaisen. The short, which lasts just over two minutes, didn’t hold back when it came to depicting the intensity of the battle between Jinwoo and the Ant King.
From the Ant King’s ice attack and system notifications to how Jinwoo gains an upgrade in the mutilation skill after leveling up, the clip was meticulously crafted to do justice to the fight in the manhwa and anime. The video has also received praise from fans, surpassing 400,000 views on YouTube and 3 million on @Diegowoods_ Instagram.
Solo Leveling’s Live-Action Might Work Better Than Many Fans Think
Despite the challenges of translating a story of Solo Leveling‘s scale to real life, the global popularity of both the manhwa and anime has spurred more projects for the franchise, which could indicate a good budget for its upcoming live-action adaptation, respecting the source material and avoiding the plot changes that often lead to disastrous adaptations.
Details about the casting for the Solo Leveling live-action adaptation have also been gradually revealed, though without an official release date. However, this recent short proves that even one of Solo Leveling‘s biggest fights can be successfully brought to life with the help of VFX. This might change fans’ perceptions, potentially shifting them from not expecting anything from a live-action adaptation to eagerly anticipating a real-life version of Solo Leveling.
