Following the excitement of Thanksgiving, plenty of family and friends will be looking forward to relaxing and watching a good movie together on Prime Video this weekend. With a vast array of new and old movies, there’s no shortage of options to suit all tastes, as its immense catalog offers practically endless entertainment options.
Whether you’re an old soul with a love for comedy classics, a hopeless romantic, or an action movie lover looking to up your heart rate, Prime Video definitely has something for you. At the weekend, viewers are always on the lookout for something great, and these three choices offer something to suit all tastes.
City Lights (1931)
They say the classics never go out of style, and never has this been more true than when it comes to Charlie Chaplin’s magnum opus City Lights. As the definitive representation of everything great about Chaplin’s iconic Tramp character, this beautiful love story about a blind girl was both tigh-slappingly hilarious and packed with poignant sentimentality.
With the threat of eviction looming over the young girl’s family, the Tramp’s endeavor to raise money for them saw City Lights effortlessly blend comedy, drama, and social commentary. More so than any other film, City Lights highlights Chaplin’s unique ability to make the audience laugh and cry in equal measure.
I Want You Back (2022)
It’s not easy to find a good rom-com these days, but I Want You Back harkened back to the glory days of the genre in the best way possible. With excellent lead performances from Charlie Day and Jenny Slate, this story of recently dumped strangers attempting to ruin their former partners’ new relationships had all the makings of a modern classic.
I Want You Back never got the attention it deserved when it premiered on Prime Video in 2022, but it remains a hidden gem on the platform, just waiting to be discovered by rom-com fans. While fans will recognize Day from It’s Always Sunny and Slate from Parks and Recreation, these two sitcom stars made for a surprisingly engaging duo.
Raiders Of The Lost Ark (1981)
Few action movies can match the awe-inspiring cinematic experience that is Harrison Ford’s first outing as the globe-trotting archaeologist Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark. As a rare film that could genuinely be considered perfect, everything from its action sequences, score, and sense of humor just worked.
Whether it was its iconic opening boulder chase or the epic quest to stop the Nazis from recovering the long-lost Ark of the Covenant, Raiders of the Lost Ark remains one of the funnest films in Steven Spielberg’s vast catalog. If there’s anyone who hasn’t seen this one yet, this weekend is the perfect time to knock it off your watchlist.
