Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Audience Rotten Tomatoes Score Revealed

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 has earned a high score with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes as the horror video game adaptation’s critic score sinks to 11%. The story of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 picks up one year after the first movie, following Mike (Josh Hutcherson), Abby (Piper Rubio), and Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) as they face threatening new animatronics.

Reviews for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 from critics have not been kind to the film. As of writing, the score has sunk to 11% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 61 reviews. This is much lower than the already Rotten score of the first Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, which holds a 33% based on 215 reviews on the platform.

However, the Rotten Tomatoes audience score for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 tells a different story. The sequel currently holds an 88% based on over 500 verified ratings, signaling the film has been a major hit with the public. This divide between critics and audiences is nothing new for the franchise: the first film holds an 86% from 2,500 reviews.

User reviews cite the movie as a fun experience, with particular focus on its nods to the video game lore. This includes a number of Easter eggs for eagle-eyed fans, alongside deeper exploration of the games’ hidden story. However, even some positive reviews found the film somewhat flawed, particularly when it came to character development for its core heroes.

The original Five Nights at Freddy’s movie ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger. Mike and Abby returned home while Vanessa was in the hospital, with the final scene teasing Springtrap’s potential appearance in the future. The second installment is pulling elements from the game of the same name, including the Toy and Withered animatronic variants, plus the Marionette.

Given the praise audiences are giving to the film, it seems like Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 leans into its strengths as a video game movie for the fans. Since this entry was written exclusively by series creator Scott Cawthon, it makes sense for there to be plenty of references and lore elements that coincide with the source material.

However, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 opened to 30% lower previews in contrast to the first movie. Whether this translates into the weekend is unclear, but given the film’s larger budget of $36 million, it’ll need stronger performance to guarantee itself a success. Luckily, the audience score indicates it may not have much box office trouble.
