The CW has put their own clever spin on the classic character with the introduction of Sherlock & Daughter in early 2025, but will the mystery series earn a second season soon? Based loosely on the beloved sleuth created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle way back in 1887, Sherlock & Daughter teams the intrepid detective with his supposed offspring as they try to crack his toughest case yet. As a key part of 19th century literature, Doyle’s character has been reinvented and reimagined countless times, and it is almost always a recipe for success on the big or small screen.
Unlike bigger-budgeted adaptations like the BBC’s Sherlock or the duology of Hollywood films starring Robert Downey Jr., The CW’s approach is refreshingly small in scope, which allows the writing to shine. David Thewlis is perhaps best known for his turn in the Harry Potter franchise, but his fresh take on Sherlock Holmes puts him in the pantheon of stars who have taken swings at the role. While the mysteries that Sherlock and Amelia could crack are fascinating, it is their dynamic as characters that truly gives Sherlock & Daughter momentum into season 2 and beyond.
Sherlock & Daughter Latest News
The Sherlock Holmes Adaptation Is A Ratings Winner
The latest Sherlock & Daughter news indicates that there might be a good chance for the show to earn another season. That’s because the series has done incredibly well with audiences in the US and abroad.
The end of Sherlock & Daughter season 1 saw the show reach a ratings high. In fact, by the end of the season, live viewers had increased by 20%. Of course, today, live viewers are not the only measure of success for a show.
Because the series is a CW series, but produced in conjunction with Warner Bros. in the UK, the series also streams on Max, the home of most Warner Bros. properties for streaming after live airing. The show consistently ranked in the top 10 there as well.
Word of mouth about the series has begun to spread as broadcast rights for the series have also been sold to several international markets. Italy, Switzerland, Canada, Greece, and more all have networks that have purchased international broadcast rights for Sherlock & Daughter.
While this does not guarantee the series a season 2, it does bode well for the future of Sherlock & Daughter.
Sherlock & Daughter Season 2 Is Not Confirmed
The CW’s Programming Is In A Weird Place
the network’s aversion to more expensive projects might put the period-piece on the chopping block automatically.
Because Sherlock & Daughter is still new, it shouldn’t be surprising that The CW hasn’t renewed it for a second season yet. Debuting shows always have more hurdles to get over, though Sherlock & Daughter likely drew a larger audience merely because The CW has stripped away so much of its scripted TV in recent years.

The CW’s 15 Best Original Shows, Ranked
The CW has produced some outstanding shows over the almost two decades since it launched, but of the many shows in its library, these are the best.
With The CW in such a strange place, it’s difficult to say if Sherlock & Daughter even has a chance to succeed. Hit shows like Riverdale, All American: Homecoming, and Walker got canceled despite being ratings successes, and The CW even ditched The Librarians: The Next Chapter after putting it on the release calendar in 2024.
With all that said, Sherlock & Daughter‘s future is in limbo for now, but it still has a strong chance of getting renewed if the numbers are right.
The Librarians: The Next Chapter now airs on TNT instead of The CW.
Sherlock & Daughter Season 2 Cast Details
Will David Thewlis & Amelia Return For Season 2?
With nothing known about the second season of the show, it’s tough to say exactly who will return in Sherlock & Daughter season 2. However, the title duo are a shoo-in to headline future outings, meaning David Thewlis will be back as Sherlock Holmes and Blu Hunt will reprise her role as Amelia Rojas.
The dynamic between the aging sleuth and his free-spirited American daughter is the true heartbeat of the series, and even the mysteries take a backseat to their character development.
Predicting supporting cast members is a bit more tricky, though it can be assumed that Holmes’ oldest foe, Moriarty, will once again be played by Dougray Scott. The series has also introduced his son Dan (played by Joe Klocek), who will likely return to complicate Amelia’s life.
The presumptive cast of Sherlock & Daughter season 2 includes:

Though it’s not clear in what capacity they would appear in Sherlock & Daughter season 2, it’s likely the Anderson family will return. Sherlock and Ambassador Anderson struck a deal to protect one another’s daughters from harm in the season finale, and Clara and Amelia have become friends. That means Phillip P. Keene, Ivana Milicevic, and Gia Hunter will likely be back.
On top of all that, the mystery series will need new cast members to flesh out the cases that Sherlock and Amelia investigate.
Sherlock & Daughter Season 2 Story Details
Will Sherlock & Amelia Crack The Red Thread Case?
Like any good mystery, Sherlock & Daughter is packed to the gills with details throughout its debut season, but it’s difficult to say what a second season could look like. The series has clearly established a fascinating new pairing of Amelia with her father, Sherlock, and that will probably be the main focus going into subsequent seasons.
The duo is set to stick together to crack new cases, and Amelia could essentially take the spot of Dr. Watson as Holmes’ partner in crime-solving. Though, they have made it clear they want to keep Amelia’s true identity as his daughter a secret, that might be difficult as the number of people who know that grows.
Though the Red Thread is stopped in season 1, it remains to be seen if they could crop up again in Sherlock & Daughter season 2. It’s more likely that a new villain or a cabal of villains would be brought in for new stories in the new season.
Speaking of classic villains, Moriarty is in custody for now, but there’s no guarantee that the criminal mastermind won’t break out and cause more chaos in Sherlock & Daughter season 2.
How The Sherlock & Daughter Season 1 Ending Sets Up Season 2
The Season Finale Only Leaves One Red Thread Out There
The season 1 finale of Sherlock & Daughter is very good at tying up its loose ends. All of the conspirators involved in the Red Thread are either dead, in prison, or have a deal to cooperate with Sherlock Holmes. The only one not accounted for is Dan Moriarty.
Amelia traps Dan in a secret passageway after discovering the truth of his plans to start a war and assassinate the Prime Minister. While she believes he would have run out of air before he was found, a final shot of clean-up at the American Ambassador’s estate after the ball shows the wood panels of the wall broken.
That leaves a young Moriarty in the wind as a potential recurring adversary for Amelia in much the same way his father was for hers. What remains to be seen is whether he would attempt to set up the Red Thread again or start a new criminal enterprise.
It should also be noted that if the series returns for season 2, the Anderson family will still be a part of the show despite them being central to the season 1 mystery. Sherlock Holmes and Ambassador Anderson reach an agreement to protect one another’s daughters from harm.
For Sherlock, that means making sure Clara’s reputation is not tarnished by any stories of the case. For the Ambassador, that means making sure any criminals he is still connected to by the Red Thread do not come after Amelia. Amelia and Clara’s friendship should get the chance to flourish in some b-storylines.
Of course, with the season 1 case all tied up, that leaves Sherlock & Daughter season 2 ready to take on a whole new mystery.
