The time has finally come—we are officially getting a sequel to The 10th Kingdom. Despite being a significant TV event when it was released in 2000, it seems many have forgotten The 10th Kingdom. The show’s following is niche, but those of us who remember the campy, funny, and surprisingly dark fantasy series have spent the last 25 years hoping for more. Now, it seems that our wish is about to be answered.
The 10th Kingdom is technically a miniseries, though its format was entirely unique compared to modern projects. All five episodes aired on consecutive nights in 2000, with each being nearly two hours long. The story follows a waitress from New York City, Virginia (Kimberly Williams), who accidentally slips through a magic mirror with her father into the parallel world where fairytales are real—The Nine Kingdoms.
Virginia fights through all five episodes of The 10th Kingdom to return home, but her journey is complicated by the Evil Queen, who seeks to lay claim to our protagonist’s companion, the princely grandson of Snow White, who has been turned into a dog. The 10th Kingdom is packed full of action, romance, murder, magic, and plenty of twists and turns. Though the series had a satisfyingly happy ending, there has always been room for more.
The 10th Kingdom’s Creator Has A Sequel Book In The Works
It’s been 25 years since The 10th Kingdom came to a close, and creator Simon Moore is finally giving us a sequel. The screenwriter announced early in 2025 that a novel titled Big Bad Wolf: A 10th Kingdom Fairytale is in the works. This comes after a drawn-out scramble over the story’s rights. Moore has reportedly completed the novel, which has been submitted to his publisher. This could still be a long process, but what’s important is that a sequel to The 10th Kingdom is officially happening.
Moore read the first chapter of his new novel to followers on his Facebook page. The story of Big Bad Wolf: A 10th Kingdom Fairytale revolves around Virginia and Wolf’s daughter, Accalia, who grew up in New York City “unaware of her destiny.” Everything changes for Accalia when she notices mysterious figures are following her in red cloaks. To escape these pursuers, she follows a strange man named Lupus through a magic mirror.
It certainly sounds as if this The 10th Kingdom sequel will once again start in New York, but bring fans back to the magical Nine Kingdoms. We should get to see how this realm has transformed since the Evil Queen’s death. Did Prince Wendell’s rule usher his kingdoms into a bright new era, or has darkness continued to fester through a new, magical villain?
Simon Moore’s New 10th Kingdom Book Could Mean A TV Sequel Too
Moore has certainly implied that he would like to see Big Bad Wolf: A 10th Kingdom Fairytale brought back to the screen as an official TV sequel to the original miniseries. However, it appears that legal rights continue to complicate things. Moore had to dance through a lot of hoops to acquire the book rights, but making a TV adaptation will require a great deal more legal maneuvering.
After 25 years, it really would be a treat to see stars like Williams and Scott Cohen return to the screen. We’d love to see what happily ever after really looked like for Virginia and Wolf, and to meet their daughter Accalia in the flesh. Then, naturally, a return to the Nine Kingdoms would be entirely welcome. Only time will tell. For now, we can only content ourselves as we wait for The 10th Kingdom‘s new novel.
