Love & Death is now a hit on Netflix. The miniseries, which stars Elizabeth Olsen and is based on the true story of Candy Montgomery, originally premiered on HBO Max in April 2023, and was recently added to Netflix on December 1, 2025.
Now, Love & Death ranks eighth on Netflix‘s Top 10 shows in the United States for the week of December 1–7. It ranks below Sean Combs: The Reckoning season 1, Stranger Things season 5, Matt Rife: Unwrapped – A Christmas Crowd Work Special, The Abandons season 1, Stranger Things season 1, Stranger Things season 2, The Beast in Me, and above Raw: 2025 (December 1), and Stranger Things season 3.
Created by David E. Kelley, Love & Death stars Elizabeth Olsen as Candy Montgomery, a housewife from Wylie, Texas in the 1970s whose affair with a fellow church member culminates in a deadly incident that ultimately puts her on trial.
Other than Emmy nominee Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision), Love & Death‘s cast also includes Oscar and Emmy nominee Jesse Plemons (Power of the Dog, Black Mirror, Fargo), Lily Rabe (American Horror Story), Patrick Fugit, Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad), Emmy nominee Tom Pelphrey (Ozark), Elizabeth Marvel, and Keir Gilchrist.
Love & Death received mostly positive reviews, resulting in a 63% Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics praising Elizabeth Olsen’s excellent performance, though the show’s straightforward take on brutal murder fails to set itself apart from other true-crime stories. However, it was Jesse Plemons who received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series.
Love & Death was received even better by audiences, boasting an 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Love & Death is one of several HBO shows streaming on Netflix, also including Six Feet Under, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Ballers, Insecure, and more. Following Netflix’s recent deal to acquire Warner Bros., which owns HBO, this could become a lot more common.
