Inaccurate Fallout AI Recaps Pulled By Prime Video

Prime Video pulled its Fallout AI recap videos after they triggered major backlash among viewers due to inaccurate information.

Amazon revealed in November that it would release AI-generated recap videos for Fallout. The idea seemed reasonable enough. The first season of the hit science fiction series ended over a year ago in April 2024. So, giving viewers a quick summary of what happened before Fallout season 2 would save them the trouble of having to re-watch the entire first chapter.

Unfortunately for Prime Video, its execution was far from perfect. Viewers almost immediately noticed inaccuracies in these recaps. The AI-produced summaries contain multiple factual errors. Some of these videos place Fallout season 1’s flashback scenes more than 100 years earlier than when they originally take place. It also provided false information regarding major character and story developments.

One of the most glaring mistakes was when a recap portrayed The Ghoul’s (Walton Goggins) and Lucy’s (Ella Purnell) newfound alliance at the end of Fallout season 1 as an ultimatum. However, the scene was actually supposed to be the two joining forces to track down the man “behind the wheel” in New Vegas. This was a huge moment in the show. It was also meant to be a plot point to move the story forward, setting up the events and character dynamics of Fallout season 2.

This sent Fallout fans into a frenzy. Many took to social media and condemned Prime Video for being so careless. Viewers thought it was ridiculous that the studio couldn’t be bothered to have an actual person fact-check the recaps before releasing them online for the world to see. Others used this as another reason to write off AI completely, and how there are certain things that only human beings can do.

Amazon first announced their plans for AI-generated recap videos in February 2025. The company was so confident that it called its new process “groundbreaking.” The statement drew the criticism of many, as most people who are knowledgeable about the basic concepts of Artificial Intelligence are aware that these programs can be incredibly flawed and shouldn’t be fully trusted. It’s for this very reason that most AI programs come with a disclaimer to double-check important information.

Fallout season 2 will premiere on Prime Video on December 17, 2025.
