It’s a pretty good time of year for gamers, with deep discounts and even the occasional freebie. If you’ve got a PlayStation 5, there’s one festive freebie that was just quietly added, and you won’t want to miss it.
PlayStation has quietly been making the PlayStation 5 UI way better over the last few years, adding new functionality and customization options to ensure you can make your gaming hub really feel like your own. As part of this, there are a ton of special themes and animated wallpapers you can get.

As part of the holiday season, PlayStation has now added an extra cozy fireplace theme, which crackles away merrily in the background while you choose your next game. Perhaps not the most exciting freebie in the world, but if you can’t curl up in front of an actual fire, this is an okay substitute.
To change your background, all you need to do is head over to the Welcome Hub on your PlayStation 5. From there, select Choose Background, and you should be able to find this latest fireside tableau at the top of the pile. It’s worth noting you don’t need PlayStation Plus to access this special background, it’s completely free for everyone.

While you don’t need PlayStation Plus for the above freebie, if you do happen to be a subscriber, you’ll have your hands full for the rest of the month with a pretty decent chunk of free games.

As you can see, a little bit more exciting than a digital fireplace. But you do have to pay a subscription fee for these. Personally, I’d recommend Assassin’s Creed Mirage if you haven’t already checked it out. I can’t vouch for either of the Paw Patrol games, because that would be a little odd since I don’t have kids.
