Amanda Seyfried has been hoping for another Mamma Mia movie, despite hearing some pushback. Regardless of what some may say, this actress is determined to make Mamma Mia 3.
In an interview with Variety, Seyfried spoke of the long-awaited Mamma Mia 3 as well as her experiences in the previous films in the series. The actress gave an answer that has divided many on whether a third film should even be made, but Seyfried has the perfect response to any doubters:
“I was talking to Rita Wilson last night. Someone had said earlier that night, “I just talked to Rita Wilson. She said ‘Mamma Mia 3’ is not off the table.” And I was like, “It’s burning a hole through the table.” She agreed with me.
It would be so silly if it didn’t happen. I mean, they keep making “Fast and the Furious.” We’ve already done “Mamma Mia” two. Meryl is available. Let’s do it. Just get me on an island with Christine Baranski. Just get me back there. She’s one of the goddesses of our time.”
There are 11 Fast and Furious movies, with plans for a 12th movie on the way, yet many films are often questioned about how many sequels they want to make.
Mamma Mia became the highest-grossing live-action musical film at that time in 2008, and earned over $600 million worldwide on a $52 million budget. It featured ABBA’s greatest hits and a star-studded cast with Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, and Colin Firth.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (or Mamma Mia 2) was also successful in its own right, but not as much. It grossed over $400 million at the global box office with a $75 million budget.
Producer Judy Craymer confirmed Mamma Mia 3 was in development, and Seyfried sealed the deal by saying the third movie in the franchise is a “done deal.” There’s not much to know about a plot, but Seyfried has stated in interviews that she hopes Sydney Sweeney and Sabrina Carpenter could join the cast.
Seyfried is currently promoting her movies The Housemaid and The Testament of Ann Lee. She’s known for her roles in Mean Girls, Jennifer’s Body, Mamma Mia, and Dear John. Seyfried has a few projects lined up, including Skinny Dip, My Ex-Friend’s Wedding, and The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd.
