Ice Cube is making a nostalgic return to the world of Anaconda.
Nearly three decades after his role in the original 1997 action film, Ice Cube delighted fans by making an appearance at the Los Angeles premiere of the upcoming movie. In an interview with People, the actor discussed his cameo and teased that it was a “full circle” moment for both him and his character, Danny Rich, in Anaconda.
Ice Cube said that when he was approached to take part in Anaconda, he “jumped at” the chance after learning more about the film. He explained how the new movie was different from the original and very refreshing, so he was more than happy to join the cast. He added that it was also nice to have completed his arc through the cameo.
It’s cool to do a cameo, to kind of make it go full circle in a way. When they asked me to do it, when I knew the kind of movie they were doing, I jumped at it. I’m like, ‘This is something different. It’s cool.’
The actor mentioned how he’s pretty certain that the audience, both old and new, would be excited to see Danny showing up on the big screen. “People probably get a kick out of me popping on the screen,” he explained.
The upcoming comedy Anaconda is not a remake. It is about two childhood best friends, a background actor, “Griff” Griffen Jr. (Paul Rudd), and a wedding videographer, Doug McCallister (Jack Black), who team up during a midlife crisis to remake the 1997 film of the same name. And, their efforts lead them to dangerous places in the Amazon where they encounter real-world wildlife threats.
The film will include a massive lineup of actors starring alongside Black, Rudd, and Ice Cube. The cast consists of Steve Zahn (Kenny Trent), Thandiwe Newton (Claire Simons), Daniela Melchior (Ana Almeida), Selton Mello (Santiago Braga), and Ione Skye (Malie McCallister). The film will also feature Jennifer Lopez and Ben Lawson as themselves.
Anaconda will premiere in theaters on Christmas Day, December 25. 2025.
