The Bay Harbor Butcher will officially return for his next hunt before the end of 2026.
Just a few months after the conclusion of the series’ first outing, Dexter: Resurrection season 2 already has a confirmed release month. Debuting in July 2025, Dexter: Resurrection season 1 ended on September 5, bringing back Michael C. Hall as the titular serial killer over three years after he was seemingly killed off in Dexter: New Blood.
Thankfully, the wait won’t be that long for Dexter Morgan’s next return to the small screen. In a recent interview with Love It Film, showrunner Clyde Phillips confirmed that Dexter: Resurrection season 2 will premiere in October 2026. While discussing Resurrection season 1’s swift six-month gap between the start of production and release date, Phillips explained the series is repeating that strategy for season 2:
“You talk about making the show starting in January and airing it in July. That’s not unusual. And we’re going to do it again this year. We’re going to start shooting in April and we’re going to air in October.”
Phillips and director Marcos Siega recently revealed April 2026 as Dexter: Resurrection season 2’s filming start month, leading to speculation that the episodes would arrive in the fall. Now, Phillips has confirmed that timeline, though Paramount and Showtime have yet to announce Resurrection season 2’s official release date.
With the first season in summer 2025 and the second in fall 2026, Dexter: Resurrection is curbing an exacerbated trend for streaming shows in which delays between seasons are more frequently taking two or three years. Annual season releases were the norm for the original Dexter show’s eight seasons, however, with all airing from 2006 until 2013.
Phillips’ interview also clarified that Dexter: Resurrection season 2 will have 10 episodes, mirroring the sequel series’ freshman outing. According to Phillips, returning executive producer Marcos Siega will direct six episodes while another undisclosed director will helm the other four:
“We shoot what’s called ‘block shooting.’ We shoot two episodes at a time so that you have the same location and all of that stuff. Then another director comes in and does two. Marcos [Siega] does six of them and another director will do four of them. We’re negotiating with her. The deal hasn’t closed, so I can’t say her name. But we’ll get her.”
While the story is still being kept under wraps, Phillips has already confirmed that Don Framt/The New York Ripper will be introduced in Dexter: Resurrection season 2. Casting for the illusive serial killer has yet to be announced, with Paramount also having yet to confirm which actors other than Michael C. Hall will be returning from season 1’s ensemble.
