Hazbin Hotel creator Vivienne Medrano has hinted at season 3’s secret Lilith voice star as she reveals what to expect from Charlie’s mother. Hazbin Hotel season 2 ended with Charlie finally receiving a call back from her mother, something she’d been waiting for since the series began. Unknown to her, however, is that Lilith has been in Heaven this whole time.
Speaking with SlashFilm about Lilith’s growing importance in Hazbin Hotel season 3, Medrano revealed Lilith’s voice actor has already recorded her lines. She teased the actor coming in will be another theatre star, much like many other voices on the show, and that she’ll be bringing an “energy and diva queen-ness” to the character’s debut:
I don’t want to name anyone specific because I also don’t want to give anyone hope that we got a certain person, but she’s a very ethereal queen. I mean, she’s a queen, literally, but like a diva queen, and she’s kind of dark and her themes are resistance, power, and empowerment, and I feel like we have some amazing artists in real life that kind of embody that energy that she was kind of inspired by.
The person who voices her has a phenomenal voice and does come from the theatre world — which most of our cast comes from — but there are so many phenomenal singers in that universe, obviously.
I think it’s probably exactly what people imagine it to be in terms of vibe and personification and energy and diva queen-ness, so I’m very excited for people to meet her. We’ve got some really cool voices coming up in season 3. Obviously, we will hear her eventually, but just some of the other characters, like the guest stars we’ve gotten in season 3 specifically, are just as awesome.
Medrano also described Lilith’s voice as “uniquely commanding,” indicating she’ll have a very particular tone and manner of speaking when contrasted with Hazbin Hotel‘s other characters. However, there will still be familiarity to her performance, which will likely mesh with the other voice actors whose work is primarily on-stage. Who she is, however, remains an under-wraps mystery.
Almost the entire cast of the show is connected to theatre performances in some capacity. This includes Erika Henningsen (Mean Girls) as Charlie, Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice The Musical) as Sir Pentious, Blake Roman (Harmony: A New Musical) as Angel Dust, and Christian Borle (Something Rotten!) as Vox. This constant makes Lilith’s voice originating from there unsurprising.
The series is promising plenty of exploration surrounding her character when Hazbin Hotel season 3 arrives. Season 1 ended with Lute confronting her after Adam’s death, indicating the pair have some kind of deal with one another. She was last seen dodging Charlie’s phone calls, seemingly avoiding her family in Hell while living in Heaven.
The end of season 2 saw Vox get defeated, while Sir Pentious’ livestream proved he’d been redeemed. This ended Heaven’s yearly exterminations, while also opening a power vacuum in Hell for Alastor to potentially take over. Lilith’s phone call may have something to do with how the season concluded, possibly revealing her voice actor in the first episode.
While Medrano offers some hints as to who will be voicing Lilith, the Hazbin Hotel creator doesn’t confirm anything about where the story is going next. But, with Lilith offering a commanding presence different from all the other characters thus far, it seems she’ll be bringing plenty of fresh ideas to the table as the series continues.
