Elizabeth Olsen’s New Series Moves Forward On Hulu

Elizabeth Olsen’s hopes of returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been crushed as her new series, Seven Sisters, moves forward on Hulu. Olsen is widely known for playing Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the MCU, starting with Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and most recently appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022).

When Olsen’s Scarlet Witch will return to the MCU has long been a subject of interest. She is not a confirmed member of the cast for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday (2026) or Secret Wars (2027), though highly anticipated and hinted at, with many speculating she will feature in the Disney+ series VisionQuest, scheduled to debut in late 2026.

However, Olsen’s MCU return hopes have been dashed for the time being, as her new FX show Seven Sisters has been ordered to series on Hulu, per The Hollywood Reporter. It received a pilot order back in March 2025, which was directed by Sean Durkin, marking a reunion between Olsen and her Martha Marcy May Marlene helmer.

Seven Sisters is said to “explore what happens when a large, tight-knit family begins to unravel and has to confront long-buried secrets as a sister starts communicating with a voice no one else can hear.

Other than the Emmy-nominated Elizaeth Olsen (WandaVision), the cast includes recent Emmy winner Cristin Milioti (The Penguin), two-time Emmy nominee J. Smith-Cameron (Succession), four-time Emmy nominee Anthony Edwards (ER), Meredith Hagner, Odessa Young, Zoë Winters, Bridget Brown, Carolyn Kettig, Philip Ettinger and Ryan Eggold.

Executive producers include Will Arbery, Garrett Basch, and Sean Durkin. FX Entertainment president Gina Balian shared the following statement:

We’ve been on the lookout for a compelling family drama, and when Will Arbery and Garrett Basch brought us Seven Sisters we found one that felt uniquely FX. It lives in the deep relatable dynamics of adult siblings and their parents but does so in a way that’s bold and original with an unexpected twist. This group of incredibly gifted actors brings this family’s secrets to life in a way that will draw audiences in and keep them guessing until the very end.

During a previous interview with THR, Olsen discussed what it was like reuniting with director Sean Durkin for the pilot episode:

It was more fun than I ever expected. It was really nice to get to work with each other again after 15 years of going off and developing ourselves in different ways — with life and with work.

In addition to Seven Sisters, Elizabeth Olsen is also in pre-production on an array of projects – including the vampire thriller Flesh of the Gods, Todd Solondz’s Love Child, and the TV series Once There Were Wolves – seemingly leaving little time for a return to the MCU.
