2025 has been a big year for anime, with exciting debuts, highly anticipated returns, and major box office hits all helping to entertain fans with varying tastes. While streaming services continue to battle one another in an effort to line their selections with more anime, records have been broken online and in theaters, and the year isn’t over just yet.
As the fall anime season approaches its end, and before fans get an opportunity to look forward to winter 2026, one of the year’s wildest, most censored anime series is arriving in the U.S. with an English dub, ending the year on a chaotic note. Nukitashi, which became infamous in Japan, will be streaming in English on December 17th.
2025’s Most Censored Anime Is Now Available in English
All Versions of Nukitashi Will Be Streaming in December
Nukitashi, based on the visual novel series of the same name, began airing this past July in Japan, and immediately gained notoriety for a strange reason. The anime series was so heavily censored that still images were placed on the screen for long periods of time while the audio continued to play.
Other versions of the show were also released, one of which aired on an entirely different station and featured less censorship, while the fully uncensored version was made available for home release. Nukitashi was produced by studio Passione, known for mature projects like Interspecies Reviewers and High School DxD Hero.
With what turned out to be a genius marketing strategy, the extreme censorship attracted viewers in droves and sparked online discourse, earning Nukitashi a reputation among Japanese anime fans. Now, U.S. fans will have the opportunity to experience all versions of the series in English, streaming on OceanVeil beginning December 17th.
OceanVeil, a new online streaming service by WWWave Corporation, announced the English dub episodes will become available weekly, and released a trailer advertising Nukitashi.
Anime’s Strong Year Is Ending With an Unexpected Bang
2025 has been an exceptionally strong year for anime. Unexpected hit debuts like The Summer Hikaru Died, strong returns from The Apothecary Diaries and Dandadan, as well as massive box office hits in Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc all helped to make 2025 one of anime’s most exciting years ever.
Now, the year will be capped off with the English release of Nukitashi, and while the series doesn’t have the sort of brand power of 2025’s other major hits, it is certainly notable in a strange way. With a healthy content warning beforehand, fans can enjoy the series starting December 17th.
