My Hero Academia’s finale redefined what it means to be a hero and hero society as a whole. The Final War caused massive societal shifts, and the characters all grew to accomplish great things following the eight-year time jump. Most notably, All Might transfers his armor suit to Deku, a gift funded by his former classmates.
Fans of My Hero Academia immediately drew comparisons to Deku’s new suit and Marvel’s Iron Man. Given the heroes’ strengths and high-tech armor, it’s clear to see why parallels were drawn. However, there’s one thing that Deku excels at that Iron Man never could, and it proves that Deku truly is one of the greatest heroes.
Iron Man Proves Great Heroes Aren’t Defined by Powers Alone
Iron Man’s appeal has never rested on an innate superpower or mutation, unlike many other Marvel heroes. Instead, Tony Stark becomes a hero without superhuman strength, speed, or endurance, relying on his sharp intellect to create a groundbreaking armored suit that allows him to rise as one of the world’s greatest heroes.
Most impressively, Tony uses his intelligence and tech to continually evolve in response to new threats and rectify past failures, ensuring he never makes the same mistake twice. Each new version of the Iron Man suit is a reflection of Tony Stark’s deep understanding of dangers, preparation, and accountability.
As a hero, Iron Man constantly operates under the pressure of immense consequences, whether through collateral damage, public perception, or personal losses. These burdens shape many of his decisions and actions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and also work to anchor his character in realism despite his extraordinary feats.
Over time, Iron Man’s legacy came to emphasize the importance of problem-solving, self-awareness, and constant evolution, as well as power systems that could outlast any one person. In other words, Tony Stark proves that heroic impact doesn’t solely stem from power, but from how that power is used and managed.
Deku’s Armored Suit Marks His Transformation Into a New Kind of Hero
By the time My Hero Academia reaches its conclusion, Deku’s relationship with heroism has fundamentally changed after sacrificing One For All. The armored suit he’s gifted with in the finale isn’t framed as a sudden power upgrade, but rather a natural and earned extension of his development.
The armor suit may have restored Deku’s dream of serving as a Pro Hero, but it ultimately stands out as a symbol of unity.
The suit’s significance in the series lies in what it represents more than what it allows Deku to do. After years of relentless training, self-improvement, and physical strain, the armored suit grants Deku the means to take on Pro Hero work and serves as the culmination of the faith and gratitude others have placed in him.
Being funded by his former classmates makes the suit a collaborative effort, emphasizing one of the series’ main themes of teamwork and perseverance. The armor suit may have restored Deku’s dream of serving as a Pro Hero, but it ultimately stands out as a symbol of unity.
Like Iron Man, Deku Reclaims Heroism Through High Tech
The armored suit in My Hero Academia’s finale also draws clear parallels between Deku and Iron Man, as both operate not through innate power, but through technological innovations. Much like Iron Man, Deku’s return to hero work was only able to happen due to brilliant minds and the ability to fund high-tech projects.
While Tony Stark is credited with creating his own suit, Deku relied on the brilliant minds of Melissa Shields and Mei Hatsume. The result was a suit that was built to recreate the abilities he had with One For All, making it a functional extension that Deku is largely familiar with.
The use of advanced equipment and intentional design allowed Deku to quickly rise to the Number Four spot on the Hero Billboard. Similarly, Iron Man was one of the Avengers in his universe, meaning he stood among the most powerful, best-known, and most popular heroes.
The two heroes reached their places with the help of advanced technology and specialized suits; however, more than that, it was due to their resolve and deep desires to protect those they care about most. Both heroes operate within boundaries shaped by experience rather than an inflated ego or arrogance, making them both deserving of their positions.
Deku’s Heroism Thrives Because He Accepts Support From Others
Deku’s ending ultimately centers on a form of heroism that is sustained by trust and shared effort. The technology that allows him to return isn’t a solitary achievement but the result of collaboration, mentorship, and connections that Deku has earned. His continued role as a hero came about as much through the efforts of others as through his own resolve.
This reliance on and acceptance of support allows Deku to stand out compared to many other series. Rather than internalizing every burden, he allows others to contribute meaningfully to his future. Iron Man, however, may constantly reshape the world but struggles with personal connection, making Deku stand out in relationships and in strength through unity.
In this way, My Hero Academia positions Deku as the blueprint for a hero known for his resilience, compassion, and strength. While his armored suit may mirror Iron Man’s technological capabilities, it’s Deku’s heart and willingness to accept support that sets him apart, allowing him to not only break the mold but redefine what true heroism looks like.
