My Hero Academia concluded on Saturday, December 13, marking the end of nearly a decade of shōnen storytelling. Many fans are wondering what comes next for the series and whether there might be an OVA, a special episode, or a fifth feature film. While the series’ spin-off, Vigilantes, remains ongoing, some fans are discussing what other spin-offs could look like.
Spin-offs offer a chance to explore new corners of the universe that the main story didn’t explore. This can range from earlier eras of hero society, morally gray missions, and the future of hero society through the eyes of familiar characters. Many of these characters have something unique to offer My Hero Academia and could carry their own spin-offs.
Giulio and Anna
Giulio Gandini and Anna Scervino were both introduced in the fourth feature film, My Hero Academia: You’re Next, and quickly became popular among fans due to their emotionally driven arc. Giulio is initially portrayed as a devoted attendant and caretaker to Anna, a young woman confined to her mansion due to her quirk painfully flaring up.
Over the course of the film, their dynamic evolved into a loving, equal partnership, delivering a satisfying ending. However, given their popularity following the film’s release, a spin-off centering around the two could offer an engaging storyline that explores the universe from beyond a hero’s point of view.
Koki Terumoto
Koki Terumoto is the young man shown at the beginning of the final episode and represents the importance of looking out for others. Initially, Terumoto is depicted as a distraught boy who wanders the streets after the Final War. After years of abuse and trauma inflicted on him by his family, his story could have easily taken a dangerous turn.
Luckily, a woman reaches out and offers him help. Following the time skip, he’s seen as a student at U.A. High, proving that the help he received truly had a positive impact. Exploring a sequel from Terumoto’s perspective would give fans the opportunity to see the long-term effects of the Final War and deeper themes of healing, growth, and perseverance.
Nezu
Nezu is one of My Hero Academia’s most mysterious figures. He’s introduced as the principal of U.A. High and is depicted as a highly intelligent anime with a quirk known as High Specs, which grants him superhuman intellect and effectively turns him into a strategic and tactical genius.
He’s often seen as polite and sophisticated, however, at times, he has revealed a mischievous, sadistic, seemingly crazed streak. A spin-off centered around Nezu could explore his origins and the experiments he was part of in the past. His perspective could even potentially explore the origins of U.A. High.
Chikara Yotsubashi “Destro”
Chikara Yotsubashi, better known as Destro, is a pillar in the history of My Hero Academia’s universe. He stands out as the founder of the original Meta Liberation Army, pushing an ideology that challenges society’s restriction of quirks. His writings include the Meta Liberation War, an outlined vision of absolute freedom for those with quirks, leaving behind a lasting legacy.
A spin-off exploring Destro’s life could explore the formative experiences he had when quirks were still new to society. Paired with the fact that he is the child of the “Mother of Quirks,” a spin-off could easily delve into the shift society experienced when quirks were steadily becoming more common.
Lady Nagant
Lady Nagant stands out as the representation of the dark underbelly of hero society. She was once recognized as a Pro Hero, however, her disillusionment with the system and the Hero Public Safety Commission led her down a path that resulted in her imprisonment after she assassinated a chairman.
Exploring the events that pushed her from hero to fugitive could cement Lady Nagant’s place as one of My Hero Academia’s most complex characters. Despite her limited appearance in the series, she already stands among the most intriguing Pro Heroes and villains, making her the perfect choice for a potential spin-off.
Star and Stripe
Star and Stripe is introduced as the number one Pro Hero in the United States, representing immense power and hope on a global scale. Her quirk, New Order, easily stands out as one of the most powerful abilities in the series, allowing her to bend reality to her will as long as it’s something she can touch and name.
As a character largely influenced by All Might and filled with untapped potential, a spin-off could give her a story that instantly captivates millions of fans worldwide.
As the Number One hero in America, a spin-off centered on Star and Stripe, also known as Cathleen Bate, could explore her rise to prominence and what hero society looks like outside Japan. As a character largely influenced by All Might and filled with untapped potential, a spin-off could give her a story that instantly captivates millions of fans worldwide.
Nana Shimura
Nana Shimura is the seventh holder of One For All, often remembered for her courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment to justice. As a mentor and the predecessor of All Might, her life bridges generations of heroes and shapes the philosophies that would later define the Symbol of Peace.
Centering a spin-off on Nana Shimura would explore not only the life and strides made by a previous One For All holder, but could also put into perspective what earlier battles against All For One were like and the true depth of the sacrifices Nana made in facing rising villainy.
Eri
Eri is the young girl who was saved by Deku and the collective efforts of many heroes against Overhaul in Season Four of My Hero Academia. Her traumatic past and growth throughout the series make her one of the most resilient and inspiring characters, having overcome unimaginable hardships.
A series following Eri’s future could reveal a different side of society in the franchise through a slice-of-life storyline in which Eri explores new challenges, learns to control her power, and navigates life beyond her early trauma. As a fan favorite character, expanding Eri’s story would be both a welcome and heartwarming experience.
All Might
All Might stands as the Number One hero and Symbol of Peace for the entire first half of the series, standing as the embodiment of hope and justice. Beyond his public persona, he’s a man shaped by sacrifice, Nana Shimura’s mentorship, and the burden of maintaining hope in a world that relies heavily on his presence.
A spin-off centering around All Might could follow his early life and career as a hero, including his training under Nana and the challenges that come with rising to the top. As a central character in My Hero Academia, a prequel series that details All Might’s early life, would surely capture fans’ attention while offering intense, never-before-seen battles.
Dabi
Dabi is a character fueled by tragedy and is easily one of the most compelling antagonists in My Hero Academia. As the eldest son of Endeavor and Rei Todoroki, he stood out as a major revelation that drastically impacted the characters in the series. He is both an incredibly dangerous and yet tragically sympathetic character.
A spin-off centered on Dabi could explore his life immediately after the fire that was thought to have killed him and his descent into villainy. Aside from the fact that he is a killer and a threat, little is known about his life prior to joining the League of Villains, opening the door to a dark, thrilling narrative.
