Hollow Knight: Silksong has some incredibly interesting combat, with many aspects of Hornet’s fluid and graceful strikes only scratching the surface of what players can do. There are plenty of secrets surrounding fighting in this highly praised Metroidvania, adding to the depth of every combat encounter. However, one player has found one feature that not many even realized was present in the game.
YouTube creator Bloblumord the 3rd posted a video back in November 2025 that’s gained more traction recently, showing off a unique approach to Silksong‘s infamous boss fights. Despite the difficulty of the game’s bosses and combat, this player has found a way to win battles with one move alone, making fights far more challenging than ever. This comes from a hidden mechanic Hornet has, but rarely uses.
Fans Can’t Believe Taunt Causes Damage
Hornet’s Lack Of Resources Unlocks A Damaging Move
Bloblumord the 3rd’s video shows that Hornet’s Taunt with no Silk resources actually does a single hit of damage against enemies, a technique hardly any players knew about. According to one comment, a player mentions that “I didn’t even know that it deals damage, what,” a sentiment felt by many in the conversations below the video itself.
This Taunt move is rarely seen, as it only appears when you run out of Silk, a resource tied to restoring Hornet’s health through her Bind move. Most of the time, players won’t pay attention to Silk unless it’s full enough to help them recover from damage.
As players gather more Silk Hearts in Silksong, this Taunt is seen less and less with their overall Silk being filled more often. The Taunt seems to deal a very small amount of damage, making it practically useless as an attack anyway. It uses the same animation as Hornet’s Bind recovery, so some players might mistake it as a different move.
This successful Taunt seems to restore Hornet’s Silk by a tiny amount too, giving it a slightly interesting purpose outside of its damage. Although the damage itself is almost nothing, the ability to use this Taunt as a small attack is a fascinating cherry on top of Hornet’s lethal Needle strike, acrobatic dives, and other techniques.
“Halfway There,” Says Silksong YouTuber
Long Journey Ahead Of An Already Ambitious Player
The YouTuber who showcased the Taunt’s single-hit damage did so in a video of them defeating the Last Judge boss in Silksong using just that move as their only attack. This insanely challenging feat is nothing short of impressive, but the content creator doesn’t seem to be done yet. The description of the video simply states “Halfway there” as its only remark, indicating that the Taunt will be explored further.
It’s likely that Bloblumord the 3rd plans on tackling all the bosses and enemies in the game using only the Taunt attack. Taking down every enemy, from Grand Mother Silk in Act 2 to Lost Lace in Act 3, using only the Taunt would be an extraordinary feat. However, the mastery of Silksong‘s combat seen in the battle against Last Judge proves that if any player can complete this achievement, it’s this YouTuber.
This creator will undoubtedly have to learn every boss’ attack patterns closely to have a chance, as their nearly useless Taunt barely does any damage. Only true mastery of Hollow Knight: Silksong will allow them to win, but likely through a very long process of trial and error.
