From animated series boasting actors who would dominate prestige drama, to live-action shows quietly introducing performers before they became household names, these superhero projects now look far more stacked than anyone realized at the time. Looking back, it’s surprising just how many acclaimed actors passed through these shows. Particularly considering many would soon find awards, franchises, and global recognition.
Superboy (1988–1992)
A continuation of Superman’s early years, Superboy focused on Clark Kent’s college-era adventures, blending youthful drama with low-stakes superhero storytelling. The series centered on the Man of Steel in training and featured two major future stars. Joaquin Phoenix (credited as Leaf Phoenix) appeared as Billy Hercules in the episode “Little Hercules.” Billy is a high school genius who befriends Clark.

Misfits (2009–2013)
