Red Dead Redemption fans have been getting a lot of exciting updates and new releases lately, with the original RDR getting a next-gen update and releasing for free on services like PlayStation Plus. However, it seems there’s more good news on the way, with a long-awaited Red Dead project getting an exciting update.
According to reputable leaker NateTheHate (via X), a next-gen Red Dead Redemption 2 update is still in the works at Rockstar Games, and this reportedly includes a Nintendo Switch 2 port. NateTheHate also says that Rockstar will likely make an official announcement “when they are ready,” but a specific timeline for when we can expect that was not provided.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Is Getting A New Port, Apparently
NateTheHate has been a reliable source concerning Red Dead Redemption rumors and leaks, and has recently discussed a next-gen RDR2 update on multiple occasions. However, one leak (via GameReactor) suggested we’d see a Nintendo Switch 2 port by the end of 2025, though to be fair, Rockstar hasn’t officially announced or even confirmed the port is in the works.
According to NateTheHate, however, while a 2025 Nintendo Switch 2 port clearly isn’t happening, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen soon. Insider reports suggest that the next-gen upgrade for Red Dead Redemption 1 (which just released in December 2025) was in the works alongside an RDR2 update, as well as the Switch 2 port, meaning we could very well see a huge RDR2 announcement on both fronts in the coming weeks or months.
We’ll Have To Wait And See
While NateTheHate’s insider info fuels a lot of speculation and has been getting players hyped for the RDR2 next-gen update, patience will be the name of the game when it comes to Rockstar. Fans of the studio are no strangers to the waiting game, with Grand Theft Auto 6 delays pushing the game back to November of this year.
While it seems highly likely that a Red Dead Redemption 2 next-gen update and Switch 2 port are going to happen, Rockstar doesn’t seem to want to make promises it can’t keep, or they’re waiting for an opportune moment to make an official reveal.
Either way, fans will have to wait a bit longer to play their favorite Western action-adventure game of all time on Nintendo Switch 2. The original Red Dead Redemption next-gen upgrade is currently available on Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X consoles, with Rockstar making an official announcement about three weeks before its release.
