Warning: SPOILERS For Landman Season 2, Episode 8 – “Handsome Touched Me”Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) just one-upped and topped Landman season 2’s weirdest ongoing story with something even weirder. As Landman season 2 zeroes in on its endgame, Tommy’s main concern as M-Tex President is keeping the company afloat from the poor decisions of new owner, Cami Miller (Demi Moore).
Despite Tommy’s endless hassles involving the offshore oil drilling platform being financed by Gallino (Andy Garcia), which could put the company under, getting his son, Cooper Norris (Jacob Lofland), out from under Gallino’s thumb, and putting out fires as a landman, Norris dreads his household even more.
Tommy’s life got more complicated by the addition of his father, T.L. Norris (Sam Elliott), to his rented home in Midland, Texas. Tommy’s ex-wife, Angela (Ali Larter), insisted on T.L. living with his family, which means Tommy has to swallow a lifetime of enmity and spend quality time with his pop.
Tommy Hiring A Stripper For His Dad Is Even Weirder Than Angela & The Old Folks
When the invalid T.L. Norris fell in the swimming pool in Landman season 2, episode 8, Tommy Norris took Angela’s weird ongoing storyline to another level. Inspired by his ex-wife, Tommy stopped by Rick’s Cabaret, a Midland strip club, to hire a physical therapist for his father.
Tommy hired Cheyenne, an exotic dancer with no actual medical qualifications, to be T.L.’s physical therapist.
Tommy hired Cheyenne (Francesca Xuereb), an exotic dancer with no actual medical qualifications, to be T.L.’s physical therapist. Tommy’s logic is that his father wouldn’t respond to a traditional, qualified therapist (which Cheyenne points out she is not), but a hot stripper is someone the elder Norris wouldn’t object to.
Of course, Tommy was right, and T.L. was happy to float in Cheyenne’s arms in Tommy’s backyard swimming pool. Cheyenne also liked T.L. and enjoyed herself. Still, this development was utterly bizarre, including how Tommy didn’t even tell Cheyenne his name or where he lives until after he hired Cheyenne, and the stripper asked for details.
Angela and Ainsley Norris (Michelle Randolph) entertaining the elderly, including bringing them to a strip club, is Landman‘s most bizarre storyline. Not only is it disconnected from Landman‘s main narrative thread, but Angela’s antics fail to rise above being merely a means for Taylor Sheridan to give Angela something to do.
Tommy hiring a stripper to be his father’s physical therapist and the way he went about it is a “What the?!” moment that brings Norris’ decision-making into question. However, it worked and was, at least, entertaining, compared to how Angela’s running storyline feels like wheel-spinning.
Landman Season 2 Is Like Watching Two Different Shows
Even more than its first season, Landman season 2 is almost like two different shows. Tommy’s work as a landman and President of M-Tex is compelling, particularly in the intrigue surrounding Gallino and Cami’s burgeoning friendship, and Landman‘s ominous predictions of the oil business.
Ancillary to Tommy’s story is a surprising new romance between Rebecca Falcone (Kayla Wallace) and geologist Charles Newsom (Guy Burnet) that adds new insights into the tightly wound attorney’s personality while frustrating viewers.
Landman season 2 also had a pair of remarkable episodes, including the Norris family coming together for Tommy’s mother’s funeral, and a surprisingly heartwarming “Pirate Dinner.” Since then, Landman feels like it has taken a step backwards.
Landman season 2’s status quo is an odd separation between Tommy’s A-story and the distracting, oddball adventures of Angela, Ainsley, and their elderly friends. Tommy hiring a stripper as his father’s physical therapist was a page from Angela’s playbook that was even more bizarre than anything his ex-wife had done thus far.
