Avengers: Doomsday‘s teaser trailers have already set the story up to effectively ban one of the MCU’s strongest new heroes from playing a role in the movie’s battles. While the MCU timeline tends to save its biggest and most eye-catching fights for its crossover Avengers movies, this approach hasn’t always been synonymous with all of the franchise’s strongest characters getting to play a part in these stories.
Though Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame made a point of showing off the powers and battle prowess of almost every living character with powers, the franchise has also often kept powerful heroes and villains alike out of certain films or scenes, either for plot reasons or for the sake of balancing the forces of good and evil. Currently, it appears Avengers: Doomsday will be following suit.
Avengers: Doomsday’s Teasers Are Already Preemptively Justifying One Powerful MCU Hero Being Left Out Of Its Battles
Avengers: Doomsday‘s currently released teaser trailers have already provided some fascinating updates about what to expect from the upcoming MCU movie, with the first showing the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers – who is now a father – and the second Avengers: Doomsday teaser showing Thor praying to his own father, Odin, for guidance on how to handle the trials he faces.
Notably, Thor discusses how his main motivation is to return back to his newly adopted daughter Love, who he took under his wing in the ending of Thor: Love & Thunder. The God of Thunder directly states:
“Lend me the strength of the All-Fathers… so that I may fight once more, defeat one more enemy, and return home to her – not as a warrior, but as warmth, to teach her not battle, but stillness, the kind I never knew.”
Interestingly, the specific wording of Thor’s plea for help here reinforces one specific idea – namely, that Thor intends to keep Love entirely out of any foreseeable conflicts, despite her immense powers after being revived by Eternity, and despite Thor: Love & Thunder ending with Thor and Love charging into battle side by side in a way that suggested he was perfectly happy to let her enter into combat situations.
However, this makes sense given it seems Thor may be specifically preparing for a much bigger kind of fight than the kind he was willing to let Love join him in, and since his comments suggest he may be actively aiming to teach her that there is more to life than battles or conflict. Interestingly, Avengers: Doomsday effectively having Thor ban Love from entering its prospective frays could also seemingly help set up another impending storyline.
Avengers: Doomsday’s Thor Teaser Could Be A Perfect Setup For Love Joining The Young Avengers
While Thor striving to ensure Love’s childhood teaches her about more than battle is an undeniably positive goal, it’s also one that seems like it could create conflict between the God of Thunder and his daughter.
Love is shown to be one of the most powerful young heroes in the current MCU – having been effectively imbued with the powers of a god, as is shown via her immense strength and ability to shoot cosmic energy in the final scenes of Thor: Love & Thunder. With Thor having taught his adoptive child how to harness her talents in battle, it seems very possible that him trying to keep her from conflicts will frustrate Love.
Though it makes sense to keep your child from conflicts that seem as though they could be certain death scenarios – as the main conflicts in Avengers: Doomsday no doubt are – it’s also easy to see how a child with truly immense powers may feel that not using their abilities to protect others is ultimately allowing bad things to happen to others, and risking lives unnecessarily.
Given the Young Avengers are currently being formed in the MCU, Love being seemingly put on the backburner for Avengers: Doomsday‘s main conflict is particularly notable, and seems as though it could well be the origin story of the young hero becoming the Young Avengers’ own god-level member. However, this kind of plot development may need to wait until after Avengers: Doomaday or even Avengers: Secret Wars in order to unfold.
