The wildest White Lotus fan theory needs to come true; creator Mike White needs to use his HBO anthology series to give fans the official School of Rock reunion they’ve wanted for decades. White has the opportunity to do the funniest thing, and put the band from School of Rock, all grown up, in White Lotus.
White Lotus Season 4 is expected to take viewers to the French Riviera. The series currently shows no sign of slowing down; it could run as long as HBO and Mike White want to keep doing it.
At some point, even as just a background cameo, the show has to give viewers a School of Rock “sequel.”
Mike White Could Give Millennial “White Lotus” Viewers The “School Of Rock” Sequel That Never Happened
A Cast Cameo In White’s New Hit Show Would Thrill Fans Of The Film
Written by Mike White, and directed by the legendary Richard Linklater, 2003’s School of Rock was a starring vehicle for Jack Black, but its success was ultimately a product of its ensemble cast of young actors. It was a formative movie for millennials, one that scores high on the “nostalgia meter” for anyone in their mid-30s.
Black teased the possibility of a sequel as recently as 2023, around the 20th anniversary of the film’s release. Still, it feels like the window for that sequel closed awhile ago. At least as a full-on movie. However, Mike White’s current project, White Lotus, offers an obvious opportunity to check in on School of Rock’s characters.
White Lotus is unique, in the sense that it offers several options for a School of Rock shout-out to happen, in a way that wouldn’t feel overtly shoehorned in. Really, the only thing keeping it from happening would be behind-the-scenes logistics, but it is surprisingly within the realm of possibility.
“School Of Rock” Fans Want To See The Band Back Together; Mike White Is Their Best Hope
A White Lotus Cameo Isn’t Out Of The Question
It is perhaps too much to ask that a reunion between the School of Rock bandmates might warrant an entire subplot on a season of White Lotus. More likely, an appearance by the film’s cast would amount to a cameo. They could appear together in a pan across a hotel lobby, leaving fans to assume the group traveled together for a reunion.
Or, of course, Mike White could give fans what they really want: the School of Rock band could perform. It would have to be no more than background for a scene. But no matter how brief, it would give the cast a chance to reprise their iconic roles, and prove their characters are still rocking 20+ years after School of Rock.
