Resident Evil Requiem is set to answer more questions at the Resident Evil Showcase on January 15, but the teaser for the event has raised some new questions of its own. While the brief clip mostly just shows Grace and Leon fighting enemies, the thumbnail for the video contains a mysterious glimpse of two red bullets next to the game’s Magnum revolver.
On X, Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem asked fans for their thoughts on the red bullets, and responses have been varied. Some fans suggest that it could function similarly to Chris’s special ammunition in Resident Evil 7‘s Not a Hero DLC, which made specific enemy types vulnerable.
Another common theory is that the red color could be a tease for an appearance from Ada Wong, who is heavily associated with the color red.
Resident Evil 9 Red Bullet Theories Are Flying
The Possibilities Are Endless
Dusk Golem suggests that Ada Wong theorists are “setting [themselves] up for disappointment,” so if the leaker knows more about the red bullets than the average fan does, it might be time to set that theory aside. He also questions why the association is even being made, as “Ada’s never used red bullets before.” MsJessicaDrew, however, points out that Ada routinely gives Leon red items or pointers (to say nothing of her iconic red dresses and tops).
Another interesting theory posited by fans like MrBSomething is that the bullet could use Leon or Grace’s blood. The idea of using blood to combat the outbreak wouldn’t be new for Resident Evil, as Resident Evil 6 emphasized that Jake Muller’s blood could be the potential source of a cure. Resident Evil 6‘s black sheep status might not make it an obvious source of inspiration, but bringing back Leon as one of multiple protagonists was also a precedent set by RE6.
Red Bullets Might Not Be That Complicated
It’s Probably Not Ada
The idea that red bullets are simply a special ammunition type for certain enemies would be the least exciting possibility, but it may be the most likely one. Conserving ammunition and resources is an important part of Resident Evil, and giving the Magnum a new ammo type would play into that challenging balance.
Either way, the Resident Evil showcase should hopefully provide some answers. As Dusk Golem suggests, it’s probably best to avoid placing any hopes on Ada Wong’s return, even if there’s always a possibility of a pleasant surprise. No matter what the red bullets end up being, they should add another dimension to Resident Evil Requiem‘s survival horror gameplay.
