2026 has started pretty strongly for PlayStation Plus. The monthly Essential free games for January were delivered in the form of Need for Speed Unbound, Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, and Core Keeper, all scratching unique itches. The Extra lineup is also pretty solid, with Resident Evil Village leading the charge.
We’re now a few weeks into 2026, though it feels like we’ve been here for years already. With February (the worst month of all-time) not far off, now feels like a good time to consider what the PlayStation Plus Essential lineup of free games might look like next month. Take a walk with me.
PlayStation Plus’ Free Games For February 2026
Past months have been really strong
While we don’t yet have official confirmation of what to expect from PlayStation Plus’ free games for February, I have some pretty high hopes based on previous years. February tends to be a really solid month for PlayStation Plus, presumably because Sony knows we need some top-quality video games to get through it. Seriously, I can’t stress enough how much I loathe February.
Let’s take a look at some of February’s past PS Plus offerings:
February 2025
- Payday 3 (PS5)
- High on Life (PS4 & PS5)
- Pac-Man World Re-Pac (PS4 & PS5)
February 2024
- Foamstars (PS4 & PS5)
- Rollerdrome (PS4 & PS5)
- Steelrising (PS5)
February 2023
- Destiny 2: Beyond Light (PS4 & PS5)
- Evil Dead: The Game (PS4 & PS5)
- OlliOlli World (PS4 & PS5)
- Mafia: Definitive Edition (PS4)
February 2022
- Planet Coaster: Console Edition (PS5)
- Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot Adventure (PS4)
- EA Sports UFC 4 (PS4 & PS5)
February 2021
- Control: Ultimate Edition (PS4)
- Concrete Genie (PS4)
- Destruction AllStars (PS5)
It’s A Process Of Elimination
But the official lineup has yet to be announced
Okay, so I think we can probably all agree that February 2024 is a bit of an exception, but largely speaking, February doesn’t miss. Looking at the 2026 video game release schedule, I can’t see any February games that might fit into the surprise Day One launch category (like Destruction AllStars), so I think we can rule that out.
We can also further narrow things down by discounting the vast majority of PlayStation 4 games, given Sony is aiming to phase out PS4 titles from PlayStation Plus Essential this year. My money would have been on Resident Evil Village leading the Essential lineup for February, but that’s already being added as a January Extra title, so that’s that out of the running too.
All in all, I definitely have high hopes for the February PlayStation Plus lineup. At a guess, I’d say we’re poised to get one AAA surprise (Is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth too optimistic?), an excellent indie game (Ball X Pit could go hard), and a complete wildcard. Watch this space, we’ll find out for sure in a few weeks.
