Lyrical Media and comic book icon James Tynion IV’s production company Tiny Onion are joining forces on two new horror films inspired by the latter’s work.
The collaboration will adapt his comic series Exquisite Corpses. It will also develop a feature film version of his one-shot, Room Service, which already has a short film adaptation that was released in 2024.
In statements first released by Deadline, Tynion and Lyrical Media CEO Alexander Black expressed their excitement about working with each other. Black praised his work. Since branching out from mainstream comic books, the author, who is known for horror and science fiction, has seen much success. He received critical acclaim for many of his independent series under independent publishers such as Image Comics. The creator also has 5 Eisner Awards under his belt.
Exquisite Corpses is a horror comic series that follows a lethal contest that is held every five years. Twelve of America’s most skilled killers, sponsored by rich families, are released in a small town where they are forced to battle until only one survivor remains. The family that the winner works for will gain control of the country for the next five years. Tynion co-created the series with Michael Walsh.
Black states that Tynion’s work has reshaped the horror genre. And through Tiny Onion, he’s expanding those stories into film and TV. He explained that he admired his commitment to his craft and how he stays true to his vision. He added that he was more than happy with their partnership and is eager to bring these two upcoming films to life.
James’s comics have captivated audiences worldwide, redefining what modern horror can be. With Tiny Onion, he’s building on that success by creating stories designed to expand across film and television while tapping into his devoted audience. At Lyrical, we’re committed to empowering visionary creators to take bold swings, and these two films embody the kind of creator-driven storytelling that can grow into the next great horror brand. We’re proud to continue our partnership with James and to support the evolution of Tiny Onion—big things are ahead.
Tynion expressed his gratitude for Lyrical Media. He credited the studio with being a huge part of what he has been able to accomplish with Tiny Onion. He also thanked his co-creators for going on his new journey with him and treating his projects with love and care. Check out his statement below:
When I first started Tiny Onion, the most important thing to me was finding likeminded partners to build incredible worlds with. Lyrical has been there every step of the way, and I could not be more thrilled to embark on the next leg of our journey together. These projects were built with love and care with my incredible co-creators, and I’m thrilled to bring that same creative energy to the big screen.
Exquisite Corpses and Room Service aren’t the only comic-inspired projects that Lyrical Media is working on. The production studio’s upcoming film about Marvel Comics’ X-Men character, Onslaught (created by writers Scott Lobdell, Mark Waid, and artist Andy Kubert), is currently in post-production.
There is no release date for Tynion’s film adaptations of Exquisite Corpses and Room Service at the time of this article’s publication.
