Sinners may not take home the Oscar for Best Picture at this year’s ceremony, but it has accomplished an even rarer feat.
Ryan Coogler’s masterpiece has been seen as a frontrunner for the top prize since it hit theaters in April 2025, and is decidedly one of the best movies of 2025. It has already been nominated for seven Golden Globes (winning two) and maintains a Rotten Tomatoes score of 97% and a Metacritic score of 84%.
With this morning’s 2026 Oscars nominations announcement, Sinners has broken the all-time record for the most nominations garnered by one movie with 16 nominations. Previously, the record was tied by three movies — All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1997), and La La Land (2016) — with 14 nominations each.
