Ahead of season 2, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has effectively lost its best Young Sheldon character, and I suspect that they will eventually regret it. Amid the renewed interest in the main The Big Bang Theory show with Stuart Fails to Save the Universe coming to HBO Max, the franchise has been thriving for years thanks to its prequels.
On the heels of The Big Bang Theory‘s finale in 2019, Young Sheldon took over its spot as CBS and network TV’s number 1 comedy. The prequel, which tackled Sheldon’s childhood in Texas, introduced viewers to the rest of his family. This paved the way for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
Admittedly, there was skepticism about Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage as there was a push for Young Sheldon to continue past Sheldon’s move to California. Montana Jordan and Emily Osment’s show has been trying to make up for it by featuring characters from its parent series. However, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has likely bid its best Young Sheldon character farewell.
Annie Potts’ New Show Makes It Almost Impossible For Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage To Feature Meemaw
Potts Joins A Different Comedy
For seven seasons, Annie Potts played Connie Tucker in Young Sheldon — the Cooper kids’ Meemaw. While the character was originally played by June Squibb in The Big Bang Theory, the younger version of Mary’s mom fully endeared her to the audience, so by the end of the prequel, she had become a fan-favorite.

Young Sheldon Was Never The Same After This Plot That Led To Its Cancelation
Young Sheldon was CBS’ premier sitcom after The Big Bang Theory ended, but one plot led to its eventual cancelation just a few years later.
As such, shifting the focus from the Cooper family to the McAllisters significantly reduced Meemaw’s role in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. She appeared in a few episodes, and even got her own plots, but there wasn’t nearly enough exposure for the character.
With news of Potts joining Fox’s Best Medicine as a series regular, the chances of seeing her back as Meemaw in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage are now very little to none. Not only do Chuck Lorre and his team have to actively find stories for the character, they also have to consider logistical issues to ensure that Potts can participate.
Why First Marriage Losing Meemaw Is Far Worse Than Any Other Young Sheldon Character
Meemaw Played An Integral Role In Georgie & Mandy’s Story
There are a couple of reasons why Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage losing Meemaw is going to be a major blow to the show. Unlike Mary and Missy, whose stories have long been established to be linked with Georgie, not much is known about this point in Meemaw’s life. That’s storytelling opportunity that is going to waste.
Connie was more supportive than any of the couple’s families, hence why Cece is named after her. She will be sorely missed in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 2 and beyond.
Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, Meemaw was the most integral character in terms of making sure that Georgie and Mandy survived the rockiest period of their relationship. Connie was more supportive than any of the couple’s families, hence why Cece is named after her. She will be sorely missed in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 2 and beyond.
